Manuel Panselinos
Manuel Panselinos ( el, Μανουήλ Πανσέληνος) was a Byzantine painter and writer of the Palaeologan Renaissance, known for introducing pathos into frescos, murals and especially icons from the 13th and 14th centuries. He was active in the region of Macedonia, and was widely considered to be the most prominent and influential figure of the palaeologan renaissance and the Macedonian school of painting centered at the Empire's second-largest city, Thessaloniki. Biography Manuel Panselinos was born in the late 13th century in Thessaloniki. His primary works were iconography and frescos. His works can be found in several monasteries of Mount Athos: Vatopedi, Megisti Lavra, and the Protaton Church in Karyes. His most important work is the mural painting of the church of the Protaton. Georgios Kalliergis
Georgios Kalliergis or Kallergis ( el, Γεώργιος Καλλ ��ργης, 13th century – 14th century) was a Byzantine Greek painter. He is one of the few Greek painters of the Byzantine empire known by name. Other Byzantine painters include: Theodore Apsevdis, Kokkinobaphos Master, and Ioannis Pagomenos. Kalliergis was one of the masters of Thessaloniki. He was part of the Macedonian School of painting. His last name Kallergis was associated with a noble family from the island of Crete. Two other very famous Greek painters Nikolaos Kallergis and Christodoulos Kalergis shared the same last name. Theodore Apsevdis
Theodore Apsevdis ( el, Θεόδωρος Αψευδής) was a Greek painter assumed to be from Constantinople. He is one of the few Byzantine painters known by name. His contemporary in Italy was Alberto Sotio; both painters were active during the same period. They were active during the Komnenian restoration. Apsevdis's work influenced the Palaeologan Renaissance. Several Italian artists who painted in the style were Coppo di Marcovaldo and Guido of Siena. Ioannis Pagomenos
Ioannis Pagomenos ( el, Ιωάννης Παγωμένος, c.1285–after 1340) was a Greek painter in the Byzantine style active in Venetian-ruled Crete. He created fresco cycles for rural Orthodox churches under commission from ordinary members of the local peasant communities, who acted as collective patrons. While he could be considered a forerunner to the Cretan School, which saw success in producing hybrid-style icons for an international clientele, his work was more traditional in character and only incorporated Western influences in secondary details, as it catered to regional tastes.
