Mangala (film)
''Mangala'' is an Indian film produced by S. S. Vasan of Gemini Studios. Filmed in Hindi and Telugu languages, it is a remake of the studio's own Tamil film '' Mangamma Sabatham'' (1943). The film stars P. Bhanumathi and Ranjan. The Hindi version, released in 1950 was directed by Vasan while the Telugu version, released a year later on 14 January, was directed by Chandru. Plot Mangala, after being humiliated by a prince, swears revenge by making the prince marry her and have a child who would whip him in court. Cast * P. Mangamma Sabatham (1943 Film)
''Mangamma Sabatham'' () is a 1943 Indian Tamil-language film, starring Vasundhara Devi, Ranjan, N. S. Krishnan and T. A. Mathuram. The film was produced by S. S. Vasan and directed by T. G. Raghavachari, credited as Acharya. The film was remade in Hindi and Telugu as ''Mangala'' (1950 and 1951), in Sinhala as ''Mathalan'' (1955) and again in Telugu as '' Mangamma Sapatham'' (1965). Plot Mangamma, a village girl, is humiliated by a prince and vows to take revenge. She vows to make the prince marry her and have a child who would whip the prince in the court. However, her plans are almost foiled when the prince imprisons her when she tries to seduce him. The story revolves on how she tricks him into falling in love with her and begets a son through the prince who ultimately whips him in court. Kamal Ghosh
Kamal Ghosh (1910–1983; often misspelled in film credits as Kamaal) was an Indian cinematographer and film director. Although a native of Kolkata, he was active primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Early life Kamal Ghosh was the nephew of filmmaker, writer and actor Debaki Bose. He received training from his uncle, working with New Theaters, Calcutta (now Kolkata), in various aspects of film making. It was the lawyer turned filmmaker K. Subramanyam who brought Ghosh to South India. Career Ghosh started his career as an assistant cinematographer to Sailen Bose in the film '' Balayogini'' released in 1937. Ghosh worked as the cinematographer in-charge for the Tamil-language Jupiter Pictures film ''Anaadhai Penn'' (1938), directed by R. Prakash. Ghosh's photography, especially the lighting, was widely praised.
