Mamutica
Mamutica (English: Female mammoth) is the largest building (by volume) in Zagreb and Croatia, as well as one of the largest apartment blocks in Europe. This apartment complex was built by Industrogradnja in 1974, and designed by prof. Đure Mirković and Nevenka Postružnik. Located in Eastern Novi Zagreb, in the neighborhood of Travno. It is the Croatian version of the ''panelák'' or ''plattenbau''. The building is about 240 m long, 60 m high and has 19 populated floors. There are 1,169 apartments in the building, home to about 5,000 people. The building has 6 entrances (big Mamutica) and 3 entrances (small Mamutica). As part of Mamutica, there are 256 garages and 24 outlets at plateau level. ''Mamutica'' is also the name of a crime TV series broadcast by Croatian Radiotelevision since 2008 (two seasons ), focusing on police cases being solved in and around the building. Zagreb ( , , , ) is the capital and largest city of Croatia. It is in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Travno
Travno is an urban settlement of the Croatian capital of Zagreb, located in a city district of Novi Zagreb – istok. Mammoth
A mammoth is any species of the extinct elephantid genus ''Mammuthus'', one of the many genera that make up the order of trunked mammals called proboscideans. The various species of mammoth were commonly equipped with long, curved tusks and, in northern species, a covering of long hair. They lived from the Pliocene epoch (from around 5 million years ago) into the Holocene at about 4,000 years ago, and various species existed in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. They were members of the family Elephantidae, which also contains the two genera of modern elephants and their ancestors. Mammoths are more closely related to living Asian elephants than African elephants. () is a colloquial term in Czech and Slovak for a panel building constructed of pre-fabricated, pre-stressed concrete, such as those extant in the former Czechoslovakia and elsewhere in the world. Plattenbau
(plural: , german: Platte + Bau, lit=panel/slab' + 'building/ construction) is a building constructed of large, prefabricated concrete slabs. The word is a compound of (in this context: panel) and (building). Such buildings are often found in housing development areas. Although are often considered to be typical of East Germany, the prefabricated construction method was used extensively in West Germany and elsewhere, particularly in public housing (see tower block). In English the building method is also called large panel system-building, shortened "LPS". History Prefabrication was pioneered in the Netherlands following World War I, based on construction methods developed in the United States.
