Malaysian Open (golf)
The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament that is currently played on the Asian Tour, and was formerly played on the European Tour. Notable past winners include world number one golfers Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood (both players winning the event on two occasions). Other notable winners include 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero in 2011 as well as former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen the following year. PGA Tour winners including Harold Henning, Jeff Maggert, Glen Day, Steve Flesch, Arjun Atwal and Noh Seung-yul have also won the event. Since its inauguration there has never been a Malaysian winner. History The tournament was inaugurated in 1962 as the Malayan Open, and was one of the events on the first season of the Far East Circuit that year. Seri Kembangan
Seri Kembangan, also known as Serdang, formerly known as Serdang New Village, is a town located in Petaling District, Selangor, Malaysia. It is located in between Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The town is now a considerable city in size. It is located near the northern end of the North–South Expressway Southern Route, PLUS Expressway Southern Route . History Seri Kembangan was established as the Serdang New Village in 1950 when the British moved Malaysian Chinese villagers living around Sungai Besi to a centralised location due to the Communist Party of Malaya, Communist threat during the Malayan Emergency as part of the Briggs Plan. In its early days, the village had 50 houses and all were built from scratch because the British only provided empty plots of land. Steve Flesch
Stephen J. Flesch (born May 23, 1967) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions. He was a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, and worked briefly as a TV golf analyst for Fox Sports and Golf Channel before joining the PGA Tour Champions. Early life Flesch was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Covington Catholic High School in Park Hills, Kentucky. After graduation, he played golf at the University of Kentucky and turned professional in 1990. Professional career Flesch finished in the top ten on the Asia Golf Circuit Order of Merit in 1993, 1994 and 1996. He won the 1997 NIKE Tour Championship to earn a PGA Tour card for the following season, only the second left-hander to win on what is now the Korn Ferry Tour. The 2015 European Tour was the 44th season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. Changes for 2015 There were many changes from the previous season. Wang Jeung-hun or Wang Jung-hoon (; born 7 September 1995) is a South Korean professional golfer. He plays on the European and Asian Tours. He is from Seoul, South Korea. In 2016, he won the European Tour's Trophée Hassan II on a sponsor exemption. He made a birdie on the second extra hole of a sudden-death playoff to defeat Nacho Elvira. The following week, he won again at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a co-sanctioned event on the European, Sunshine and Asian Tours. He claimed a one stroke victory over Siddikur Rahman. 2024 Asian Tour
The 2024 Asian Tour was the 29th season of the modern Asian Tour (formerly the Asian PGA Tour), the main professional golf tour in Asia (outside of Japan) since it was established in 1995. Changes for 2024 New tournaments for the 2024 season included the International Series Macau and the Black Mountain Championship. Additionally, in February 2024, it was confirmed that a new tournament in a new continent to the Asian Tour, would be added to the schedule; the Karen Classic to be played in August at Karen Country Club in Kenya. Andrew Dodt (born 26 January 1986) is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, Asian Tour, and PGA Tour of Australasia. He has won twice on the European Tour, in India and Thailand, both events co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour. Trevor Simsby (born October 13, 1992) is an American professional golfer. Simsby won the rain-shortened Bandar Malaysia Open on the Asian Tour in a playoff. This was the final event on tour for the calendar year of 2020 as the remaining events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Anirban Lahiri (; born 29 June 1987) is an Indian professional golfer. He has played on the Asian Tour, European Tour, PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
