Malakasa
Malakasa () is a village and former community of East Attica in Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Oropos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 10.450 km2. The municipal unit Malakasa consists of the villages Malakasa, Milesi and Sfendali. Malakasa is situated on the northern edge of the Parnitha mountain range and 9 km south of the South Euboean Gulf coast. It is 29 km north of Athens city center. The A1 motorway (Athens–Thessaloniki–Evzonoi) passes south of the town. The Greek National Road 79 links Malakasa with Nea Palatia on the coast. Sfendali has a station on the railway from Athens to Thessaloniki. History The village was founded by the incoming Albanian tribe of the Malakasioi, as can be seen in its name. Malakasioi
The Malakasi were a historical Albanian tribes, Albanian tribe in medieval Epirus (region), Epirus, Thessaly and later southern Greece. Their name is a reference to their area of origin, Dangëllia (from Turkish Dağ-ili, older name "Malakasi") in southern Albania, centered around the village of Malakas, on the Western slope of mount Radomir. They appear in historical records as one of the Albanians, Albanian tribes which raided and invaded Thessaly after 1318 and throughout the 14th century were active in the struggles of the Albanian Despotate of Arta against the Despotate of Epirus. Name The primary historical sources for the Malakasi are the ''History'' of John VI Kantakouzenos written in second half of the 14th century and the Chronicle of the Tocco written in the early 15th century. Afidnes
Afidnes (, or Ἀφίδναι, from the Middle Ages until 1919: Κιούρκα - ''Kiourka'') is a small town in East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Oropos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 34.638 km2. It is situated in the eastern foothills of the Parnitha mountains, 3 km southwest of Polydendri, 5 km southeast of Malakasa and 27 km north of Athens city centre. Oropos () is a small town and a municipality in East Attica, Greece. The village of Skala Oropou, within the bounds of the municipality, was the site an important ancient Greek city, Oropus, and the famous nearby sanctuary of Amphiaraos is still visible today. Acharnes
Acharnes, also known as Menidi is a municipality in the East Attica regional unit in Greece. With 108,169 inhabitants (2021 census), it is the ninth most populous municipality in Greece. It lies just north of the Athens urban area. Geography The northern part of the municipality is covered by the forested Parnitha mountain. The southern part is in the plain of Athens, and is densely populated.
