Majdala Khattar
Majdala, born Naziha Moukarzel (October 12, 1946 – January 31, 2020) was a Lebanese singer, mostly known for her work during the "Golden Age" of Lebanon, between 1952 and 1976. Biography Her name was created by Nadia Tueni, who also wrote her first musical play: ''Al Faraman''. Majdala was discovered by producer Romeo Lahoud. He presented her to the Baalbeck Festival Jury in 1970, which directly agreed on his choice. She played many first roles such as Safra in ''Al Faraman'', at the 1970 Baalbeck Festival, and also four times at the Beiteddine Festival between 1971 and 1975, with Madinit el Farah, ''Bahr El Loulou'', ''Mawsim El Tarrabich'', and ''Wadi el Ghazar''. Lebanese People
The Lebanese people ( / Romanization of Arabic, ALA-LC: ', ) are the people inhabiting or originating from Lebanon. The term may also include those who had inhabited Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains prior to the creation of the modern Lebanese state. Baalbeck International Festival
The Baalbeck International Festival (; ) is a cultural event in Lebanon. Since 1955, people from around the world have gone to the city of Baalbek in the Beqaa Valley of Lebanon to attend the annual festival. Classical music, dance, theater, opera, and jazz as well as modern world music are performed each July and August in the ancient Roman Acropolis. The presidents of the festival have been as follows: Aimée Kettaneh from 1956 to 1968, Salwa es-Said from 1969 to 1972, May Arida from 1973 to 2010 and Nayla de Freige from 2011 to present. The Beiteddine Festival () is an annual summer festival that takes place in Beiteddine Palace in Beiteddine, Lebanon. It was launched amidst war and destruction in the middle of the 80's. It came as an act of faith in Lebanon's cultural specificity and its power of creativity and artistic freedom. It was a call for normality in the middle of the chaos and madness of the civil war. Wadih El Safi
Wadih El Safi (, born Wadih Francis; November 1, 1921 – October 11, 2013) was a Lebanese singer and composer. Born in Niha, Lebanon, Wadih El Safi started his artistic journey at the age of sixteen when he took part in a singing contest held by Lebanese Radio and was chosen the winner of all categories among 40 other competitors. Style and career Wadih El Safi being a classically trained tenor is not a verified fact since none of his known works provide proof of classical singing techniques. He has been known for singing in the belting school class, and his phonation is a testimonial of this practice. Zaki Nassif
Zaki Nassif (; 4 July 1918 – 10 March 2004) was a Lebanese music composer and singer. He was influential among the first generation of composers for the mass audience for music on radio in Lebanon in the 1940s and 1950s, and continued to be a force in Lebanese music until his death in 2004. Biography Born in Machghara, the largest town in the western Beqaa Valley in 1918 and was involved in music and country folk poetry ('' zagal'', maannaa, '' 'ataba'', mijana, abu el zuluf, etc.) at an early age. He was one of the Big Five who contributed material to Radio Orient and Radio Liban in the 1950s (alongside Halim El Roumi and Philemon Wehbe among others). During the 1990s he did singing performances on primetime television entertainment shows in Lebanon. Ziad Rahbani
Ziad Rahbani (, born 1956) is a Lebanese composer, pianist, playwright, and political commentator. He is the son of Fairouz, one of Lebanon and the Arab world's most famous singers, and Assi Rahbani, one of the founders of modern Arabic music. Many of his musicals satirize Lebanese politics both during and after the Lebanese Civil War, and are often critical of the traditional political establishment. Personal life Ziad Rahbani is the son of the Lebanese composer Assi Rahbani and Nouhad Haddad, the Lebanese female singer known as Fairuz. Rahbani was married to Dalal Karam, with whom he has a boy named "Assi" but he was later found out not to be his biological son. Lebanese Civil War
The Lebanese Civil War ( ) was a multifaceted armed conflict that took place from 1975 to 1990. It resulted in an estimated 150,000 fatalities and led to the exodus of almost one million people from Lebanon.
