Mahdi Ahmed
Mahdi Ahmed (born 17 October 1971) is a Maldivian screenwriter, producer and film director. He made his career debut with critically acclaimed film '' Amaanaaiy'' (1998), which fetched him several awards including a Gaumee Film Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay. From 1999 to 2002, he mainly worked as a director and screen writer in the Inter Office Teledrama Competition, which resulted him receiving six awards for the five films submitted. Afterwards, he was mainly recognized for his collaboration with Abdul Faththaah for the romantic disaster film, '' Hureemey Inthizaarugaa'' (2005) and fifty episodes' television series ''Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa'' (2006). This was followed by Ahmed Nimal-directed romantic film ''Vaaloabi Engeynama'' (2006) for which he was bestowed with another Gaumee Film Award for Best Screenplay. Malé
Malé (, ; dv, މާލެ) is the capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 252,768 and an area of , it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The city is geographically located at the southern edge of North Malé Atoll ( Kaafu Atoll). Administratively, the city consists of a central island, an airport island, and four other islands governed by the Malé City Council. Traditionally it was the King's Island, from where the ancient royal dynasties ruled and where the palace was located. The city was then called ''Mahal''. Masoom (1983 Film)
''Masoom'' () is the directorial debut of Shekhar Kapur. It is an adaptation of the 1980 novel '' Man, Woman and Child'' by Erich Segal which was also adapted into a Malayalam movie '' Olangal'' and an American movie '' Man, Woman and Child''. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi in lead roles along with Tanuja, Supriya Pathak and Saeed Jaffrey. It features Jugal Hansraj, Aradhana and Urmila Matondkar as child actors. Ahmed Saeed (actor)
Ahmed Saeed is a Maldivian film actor and director. Career 1997–2010: Debut and early releases On 13 June 1997, Saeed made his screen debut in a video single alongside Hassan Afeef and Mariyam Nisha. Afterwards, he played a role in Yoosuf Rafeeu's ''Dhiriulhumakee Mieebaa?''. He made his official film debut in Fathimath Nahula's debut direction ''Fahuneyvaa'' (1998), starring opposite Hussain Sobah, Jamsheedha Ahmed and Mariyam Nisha which portrays the love-conflict of a man between a prominent stage performer and a deaf-mute poor girl. Saeed played the role of Ahmed, a childhood friend of Ziyan who secretly marries two girls. Mohamed Manik
Mohamed Manik (15 October 1969) is a Maldivian film actor and director. Career 2002–10: Critical acclaim and breakthrough Manik rose to widespread prominence in the television industry and was applauded for his performance in a dual role, Ahmed Ayaz and Mohamed Adheel, in the Abdul Faththaah-directed critically acclaimed television series, ''Thiyey Mihithuge Vindhakee'' (2003) which was considered as one of the best series production in television industry. Sheela Najeeb (born 7 September 1974) is a Maldivian film actress. She has established a career in Maldivian Film Industry and is the recipient of several awards, one Gaumee Film Awards and two Maldivian Film Awards. She made her screen debut alongside Junaid in a music video "Nudhaashey Magey Loabivaa" and featured in several films afterwards. Ali Seezan
Ali Seezan (born 6 February 1977) is a Maldivian film actor, editor, director and producer. He has established a career in Maldives Film Industry and is a recipient of two National Film Awards. Early life Ali Seezan was born on 6 February 1977. ''Hama Himeyn'' is a 2004 Maldivian film directed by Ahmed Nimal. Produced by Sama and Ziya under Corona Arts, the film stars Ali Seezan, Khadheeja Ibrahim Didi and Nashidha Mohamed in pivotal roles. 1988 Maldives Coup D'état Attempt
The 1988 Maldives coup d'état attempt was by a group of Maldivians led by businessman Abdullah Luthufi and assisted by armed mercenaries of a Tamil secessionist organisation from Sri Lanka, the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), to overthrow the government in the island republic of Maldives. Whereas the 1980 and 1983 coup d'état attempts against Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's presidency were not considered serious, the third coup d'état attempt in November 1988 alarmed the international community. About 80 armed PLOTE mercenaries landed in the capital Malé before dawn aboard speedboats from a hijacked Sri Lankan freighter. Disguised as visitors, a similar number had already infiltrated Malé earlier. Gaumee Film Awards
The Gaumee Film Awards aka Dhivehi Film Awards are presented by National Centre for the Arts to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The Gaumee Film Award ceremony is the oldest film events in Maldives. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organisations in the past as well as in present provisions. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History A meeting was arranged at MCM on 30 October 1993, once the government decides to hold a Film Festival to honor the film industry. The awards were first introduced in 1994. Out of the twenty two people invited from the fraternity, only ten people showed up for the meeting.
