Magomed Torijev
Magomed Torijev; (also spelled Toriev; born 20 February 1978) is a journalist, human rights activist, expert on the North Caucasus and republics of the former Soviet Union. He's a representative of the Ingush opposition in Europe, an authorized representative of the Ingush Independence Committee, an organization whose main goal is to gain independence of Ingushetia from Russia. He worked for Radio Liberty/Free Europe, Prague Watchdog, Ingushetiya.org. He participated in the UN missions to Chechnya and Ingushetia, as well as in the OSCE mission to Ukraine. Ingushetia
Ingushetia or Ingushetiya, officially the Republic of Ingushetia, is a republic of Russia located in the North Caucasus of Eastern Europe. The republic is part of the North Caucasian Federal District, and shares land borders with the country of Georgia to its south; and borders the Russian republics of North Ossetia–Alania to its west and north and Chechnya to its east and northeast. A human rights defender or human rights activist is a person who, individually or with others, acts to promote or protect human rights. They can be journalists, environmentalists, whistleblowers, trade unionists, lawyers, teachers, housing campaigners, participants in direct action, or just individuals acting alone. They can defend rights as part of their jobs or in a voluntary capacity. As a result of their activities, human rights defenders (HRDs) are often subjected to reprisals including smears, surveillance, harassment, false charges, arbitrary detention, restrictions on the right to freedom of association, physical attack, and even murder. The Ingush Independence Committee or Committee of Ingush Independence (, ) is an Ingush separatist organization founded on 7 January 2023 by Ingush diaspora in Turkey. History The committee was founded on 7 January 2023 in Istanbul by Ingush nationalists living in Turkey. The creation of the movement was supported by Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada. The movement participated in the Free Nations of Post-Russia Forum, which was held in the European parliament in January 2023.
