Maestro United Zambia Football Club or simply MUZA FC is a professional football club based in Mazabuka, Zambia. The club was founded in 2007 as Manchester United Zambian Academy Football Club and was later renamed Maestro United Zambia Academy Football Club in 2019. The club was established by Lusaka lawmaker Keith Bebeto Mweemba. 2007–present Maestro United, made its debut in the country's top-tier football league during the 58th season in 2019. However, their initial stint in the league was short-lived, as they were subsequently relegated to division one within the same season. The club earned promotion a second time and was able to compete in the 62nd season of the Zambian Super League in the 2022–23 season. The Zambia Super League, known as the MTN Super League for sponsorship purposes, is the top association football league created in 1962 by the Football Association of Zambia. The winners of the league each season receives ZMW500,000 ($26,414.20) and a copper trophy engraved with their team name. Format The league is contested by 18 teams every season. Until 2018, it was scheduled to run within the calendar year from March to December. Mazabuka is a town in the Southern Province of Zambia. It is the capital of Mazabuka District, one of the thirteen administrative units in the Southern Province. The name Mazabuka originates from a Tonga local language word "kuzabuka" which means "To cross over the river". The name should have been "mwazabuka" which translates to "you have crossed". However, due assimilation, the name became "Mazabuka" which nonetheless translates to "you have crossed".It is believed that the name was coined after the Tonga people crossed the '' Kafue River'' near a place called Nanga during their migrations. 2019 Zambia Super League
The 2019 Zambia Super League is the 58th season of the Zambia Super League, the top-tier football league in Zambia. Due to the transitional calendar of the CAF competitions in 2018–19, the 20 teams in the league will be divided into two groups of ten teams stream A and stream B, one of teams from the north and one of teams from the south, Nkana leading one and Zesco United heading the other. The teams top two with the most points will qualify for the CAF Champions League then the other two will play the CAF Confederations Cup. The League will return to normal for the 2019–20 season. ABSA Cup
The ABSA Cup, formerly the Barclays Cup, is the current branding for an association football cup competition launched in 2007 by the Football Association of Zambia. Participants are decided half-way through current season (match day 17) and are picked from the two highest divisions in Zambia. Since the inaugural season of National Division One in the 2019–20 season, 2 teams are picked from the that division and 6 are from the Super League to enter the competition each year. Following the full acquisition of the assets and operations of Barclays in Africa, including Zambia, by South Africa-based ABSA (now ''Absa Group Limited'') in 2018, the competition's next edition in 2019 was rebranded as the Absa Cup.
