ABSA Cup
The ABSA Cup, formerly the Barclays Cup, is the current branding for an association football cup competition launched in 2007 by the Football Association of Zambia. Participants are decided half-way through current season (match day 17) and are picked from the two highest divisions in Zambia. Since the inaugural season of National Division One in the 2019–20 season, 2 teams are picked from that division and 6 are from the Super League to enter the competition each year. Following the full acquisition of the assets and operations of Barclays in Africa, including Zambia, by South Africa-based ABSA (now ''Absa Group Limited'') in 2018, the competition's next edition in 2019 was rebranded as the Absa Cup. The video assistant referee (VAR) was introduced to the competition and implemented on a pilot basis at the final of the 2023 edition, a first in Zambian football and Sub-Saharan African football as a whole. 2023 ABSA Cup
The 2023 Absa Cup was the 16th edition of the annual knock-out competition in Zambian football contested by the top 6 teams from the Super League and the top 2 teams from the National Division One following the conclusion of match day 17 of the 2022–23 season. It was also the 4th edition under the "Absa Cup" name following Absa's completed acquisition of the African assets and operations of Barclays in 2018. NAPSA Stars were defending champions after defeating Red Arrows 1–0 to win the previous edition's title. but failed to qualify for this edition after finding themselves in 11th place in the standings mid-season. Chambishi is a town in Kalulushi District in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. According to the 2021 Census its population stands at slightly above 11,000. It is located on the T3 road (Zambia), T3 road (Kitwe-Chingola Dual Carriageway) between the cities of Kitwe and Chingola. It was re-established in 1963 as a company township for the mine workers of Chambishi Mine which was under Chibuluma Mine of Kalulushi. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. Overtime (sports)
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. Janny Sikazwe
Janny Sikazwe (born 1979) is a former Zambian international football referee. He got his big break in 2008 at COSAFA U-20 Challenge Cup in South Africa when he was called to replace another referee who had failed a fitness test. On 7 January 2023 he officiated his last career match between Napsa Stars and Red Arrows. He was one of the referees for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He refereed the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup Final When in Japan, and the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Final in Gabon. He was selected to officiate at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and made his debut in the Belgium vs Panama Group G game on 18 June.
