Madeira Island Open
The Madeira Islands Open was a men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour played from 1993 to 2015 on Madeira, an Autonomous Regions of Portugal, autonomous region of Portugal. History The tournament had one of the smallest prize funds on the tour (Euro, €600,000 in 2015), and few of the tour's top players took part. From 2002 to 2005, and again from 2011 to 2015, it was a dual-ranking event with the Challenge Tour. It was played opposite the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2011 and 2013. In 2015, it was played opposite the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play after the rescheduling caused by severe weather postponed the event four months. It was hosted at Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra (1993–2008, 2012–15) and at Porto Santo Golfe (2009–11). Madeira Islands
Madeira ( ; ), officially the Autonomous Region of Madeira (), is an autonomous region of Portugal. It is an archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, in the region of Macaronesia, just under north of the Canary Islands, Spain, west of the Morocco and southwest of mainland Portugal. Madeira sits on the African Tectonic Plate, but is culturally, politically and ethnically associated with Europe, with its population predominantly descended from Portuguese settlers. Its population was 251,060 in 2021. The capital of Madeira is Funchal, on the main island's south coast. Scott Henry (golfer)
Scott Henry (born 20 January 1987) is a Scottish professional golfer. He won the 2012 Kazakhstan Open on the Challenge Tour. Amateur career Henry had a successful junior career winning a number of Scottish boys titles and playing in the Jacques Léglise Trophy in 2004 and 2005, captaining the Great Britain & Ireland team on the latter occasion. He won the Scottish Stroke Play Championship in 2006. He turned professional in 2007. Professional career Henry played on the Challenge Tour in 2009 with little success. He returned to the tour in 2012, winning his first title at the Kazakhstan Open. He finished 11th in the Order of Merit to gain a place on the European Tour for 2013. His best finish in 2013 was joint fourth in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles and from 2014 to 2016 he played mainly on the Challenge Tour. Ricardo Santos (golfer)
Ricardo Santos (born 7 September 1982) is a Portuguese professional golfer who plays on the Challenge Tour. He won the 2012 Madeira Islands Open. Professional career Santos turned professional in 2006. From 2007 to 2011 he played regularly on the Challenge Tour. In 2007, he was given an invite to the Madeira Islands Open on the European Tour, and led after the first round. He began the 2011 season well, making nine of his first ten cuts, including seven top-15 finishes. He then recorded his first Challenge Tour victory at The Princess, which took him to the top of the tour rankings. He was the first Portuguese-born golfer to win at this level, as José-Filipe Lima and Daniel Silva, despite representing Portugal, were born in France and South Africa respectively. The 2012 European Tour was the 41st season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. Changes for 2012 Prior to the start of the 2011 season, the tour had announced their intention to realign the schedule with the calendar. As a result, in 2012 there were several changes from the previous season. There was initially one new tournament in 2012, the ISPS Handa Perth International, and several tournaments were dropped: the Castelló Masters, the Iskandar Johor Open, and the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which was played in December as part of the 2013 season. Mark Tullo (born 9 February 1978) is a Chilean professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Tullo was born in Santiago. He attended North Carolina State University in the United States on a golf scholarship, graduating with a degree in Business Management. Professional career In 2003, Tullo turned professional. He has entered the European Tour's qualifying school five times, only making it through to the final stage once, in 2009. He has competed on the second tier Challenge Tour since 2007, and won for the first time in August 2010 at the Rolex Trophy, where he edged out Matteo Manassero by a single stroke. He ended the 2010 season inside the top ten on the final Challenge Tour Rankings to graduate to the elite European Tour for 2011. Tullo has also won many tournaments in Chile, including the Chile Open on two occasions, and topped the order of merit three times, in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Morten Ørum Madsen (born 9 April 1988) is a Danish professional golfer. He played on the European Tour from 2013 to 2016, winning the South African Open Championship in late 2013. Early life and amateur career Madsen was born in Silkeborg. He took up golf at the age of 12, and enjoyed a successful amateur career. He played for Denmark in the 2008 Eisenhower Trophy and again in 2010, being part of the team that took the silver medal in 2010. He attended Oregon State University from 2008 to 2011. Professional career Madsen turned professional in 2011 and promptly won twice on the third-tier Nordic League, earning a place on the Challenge Tour. A consistent second season saw him earn promotion to the full European Tour for 2013. Peter Uihlein ( ; born August 29, 1989) is an American professional golfer who formerly played on the PGA Tour and the European Tour and now plays in the LIV Golf League. He was a member of the victorious U.S. team at the 2009 Walker Cup, where he compiled a 4–0 match record. The 2013 European Tour was the 42nd season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972.
