2012 Challenge Tour
The 2012 Challenge Tour was a series of professional golf tournaments collectively known as the Challenge Tour. The Challenge Tour is Europe's official developmental tour and is organised by the PGA European Tour. It was introduced in 1986 and was originally called the Satellite Tour, before being renamed with its present title in 1990. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 2012 season. Challenge Tour Rankings ''For full rankings, see 2012 Challenge Tour graduates.'' The rankings were based on prize money won during the season, calculated in Euros. The top 21 players on the tour earned status to play on the 2013 European Tour. Kristoffer Broberg
Kristoffer Per Thomas Broberg (born 1 August 1986) is a Swedish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Professional career Broberg started his professional career in 2010, winning twice on the Swedish mini tour. The following two years he won four events on the Nordic Golf League. He qualified to play on the Challenge Tour in 2012. He won the second event he played in, the Finnish Challenge on 5 August. He won again the next week at the Norwegian Challenge. Broberg won for a third time that month at the Rolex Trophy to earn an instant promotion to the European Tour; he was the fastest player ever to achieve this having played just five events in the season. Seve Benson
Seve Benson (born 4 November 1986) is an English professional golfer. Benson was born in Guildford, Surrey, and was named after European golfing legend Seve Ballesteros. As an amateur, he was a member of the English Golf Union's Elite A Squad, and won the Russian and Qatar amateur open championships. He went on to make the cut at each of those countries professional championships while still an amateur, finishing tied 58th in the Qatar Masters, and tied for 10th in the Russian Open. Having turned professional towards the end of 2007, Benson attempted to win a place on the European Tour. He reached final stage of the qualifying school, but missed the 72 hole cut. However, by getting through to the final stage, he had already done enough to enable him to play on the second tier Challenge Tour in 2008. Darren Fichardt
Darren Clive Fichardt (born 13 May 1975) is a South African professional golfer who plays on both the European and Sunshine Tours. Early life Fichardt was born in Pretoria and grew up in Centurion, Gauteng. He attended Sutherland High School from 1988 to 1993, where his talent for golf was nurtured. Professional career Fichardt turned professional in 1994 and he won the Southern Africa Tour (now the Sunshine Tour) Order of Merit in 1999/2000 and 2003/04. He partnered Retief Goosen in South Africa's WGC-World Cup team in 2000. Fichardt has played on the European Tour since 2001 and has won four European Tour events. The Saint-Omer Open is an annual men's professional golf tournament played at Saint-Omer Golf Club in Saint-Omer, France. The tournament was founded in 1997 and was part of the MasterCard Tour a year later, before taking its place on the Challenge Tour for the 2000 season. Gary Stal
Gary Stal (born 9 February 1992) is a French professional golfer. Career Stal was born in Décines, near Lyon. He played on the Challenge Tour in 2012. He won his first title in June 2012 at the Kärnten Golf Open, playing on an invitation. The following month, Stal picked up another victory at the Credit Suisse Challenge, defeating Alexandre Kaleka in a playoff and graduated to the European Tour. He was less successful in 2013, but performed well at the second and final stages of Qualifying School to regain his place on Tour. He then finished 89th on the 2014 Order of Merit, making 21 cuts in 25 tournaments. The Kärnten Golf Open was a golf tournament on the Challenge Tour, played in Austria. It was held for the first time in 2009. It was contested over the Pete Dye designed course at the Golf Club Klagenfurt-Seltenheim in Klagenfurt from 2009 to 2012. In 2013 it moved to Jacques Lemans Golf Club in Sankt Georgen am Längsee. In 2014 it moved to the Golfclub Schloss Finkenstein in Gödersdorf. Eduardo de la Riva (born 11 June 1982) is a Spanish professional golfer. De la Riva turned professional in 2001. He joined the European Tour via qualifying school for 2003, but failed to keep his card. Marco Crespi (born 5 November 1978) is an Italian professional golfer. Career Crespi was born in Monza, Italy. He turned professional in 2002. Crespi played on the Challenge Tour in 2006–09 and 2012–13. He was invited to the 2012 Telenet Trophy which he won to earn full membership of the Challenge Tour. 2012 European Tour
The 2012 European Tour was the fourth edition of the Race to Dubai and the 41st season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season comprised 45 tournaments counting for the Race to Dubai, including the four major championships and four World Golf Championships, and one team competition. The season began in January with the Africa Open in South Africa, culminating with the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai in November. The Race to Dubai was won by Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, who also collected the Golfer of the Year award having also headed the PGA Tour money list and ascended to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking during 2012. Ricardo Santos (born 7 September 1982) is a Portuguese professional golfer who plays on the Challenge Tour. He won the 2012 Madeira Islands Open. Professional career Santos turned professional in 2006. From 2007 to 2011 he played regularly on the Challenge Tour. In 2007, he was given an invite to the Madeira Islands Open on the European Tour, and led after the first round. He began the 2011 season well, making nine of his first ten cuts, including seven top-15 finishes. He then recorded his first Challenge Tour victory at The Princess, which took him to the top of the tour rankings.
