Billy Madden (1852–1918) is best known as a champion American boxer (or 'pugilist'), pugilistic trainer and manager. He was also a playwright, author and journalist, a producer of sporting events including wrestling matches and women's marathon bicycle races. Billy Madden was born on December 10, 1852, in London, England, to Irish immigrant parents, and died on February 22, 1918, in White Plains, New York, after a protracted illness, reportedly a stomach cancer. Craig Anthony Madden (born 25 September 1958) is an English former professional football striker who made more than 400 appearances in the Football League. Playing career After playing for Northern Nomads, Madden began his professional career at Bury in 1977. He spent nine years at Gigg Lane, making almost 300 league appearances and scoring 129 goals. Conor Madden (born 1994) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Gowna and the Cavan county team. Playing career Club Madden joined the Gowna club and later progressed to the club's senior team. On 7 November 2021, Madden started his first county final as Gowna faced Ramor United. A low-scoring game ended in a draw. Early life Claire Madden was born Kathleen May Delacheroise Madden at Boley House, Coolattin, County Wicklow on 14 October 1905. She was the eldest daughter and second child of teachers Thomas and May Madden (née Glynn). She had an older brother, Tom, and younger sister, Mabel Anne Constance. Cecil Charles Madden, MBE (29 November 1902 – 27 May 1987), was an English pioneer of television production. In 1936, he moved from BBC radio to its experimental television service, and was responsible for many programmes until the service was suspended during the Second World War.
