Macomb Correctional Facility
Macomb Correctional Facility (MRF) is a Michigan prison, located in Lenox Township, for adult male prisoners. Facility The prison was opened in 1993 and has eleven major and two minor buildings, totaling approximately , on with a capacity of 1416 prisoners. It has seven housing units currently used for Michigan Department of Corrections male prisoners 18 years of age and older. One of the housing units is used for Level I (lower level security) prisoners, four housing units for Level II prisoners, and two housing units for Level IV (higher level security) prisoners. Four other buildings provide for education, support services, storage, and prison administration. Security The facility is surrounded by three chain link fences with razor-ribbon wire. Electronic detection systems and patrol vehicles are also utilized to maintain perimeter security. Two gun towers were added in 1997. Lenox Township is a civil township of Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,119, up from 10,470 in 2010. Geography Lenox Township is in northeastern Macomb County and is bordered to the east by St. Clair Township. Lawrence Paul Mills III (born September 3, 1987) is an American serial killer. He murdered two women, one of whom was pregnant, by running them over with his car in Detroit, Michigan, between October and December 2017. List Of Michigan State Prisons
This is a list of current and former List of U.S. state prisons, state prisons and minimum security prison camps in Michigan. It does not include List of U.S. federal prisons, federal prisons or county jails located in that U.S. state, State. All facilities not otherwise indicated are facilities for men. Michigan State Prison (also called the Jackson Prison) was the first state prison, built in 1842. A larger prison building was built in 1926 and used until 2007. It was reorganized into separate prisons in 1988. The Detroit House of Corrections, built in 1861, was owned and run by the city of Detroit but originally accepted prisoners from throughout the state including women. The Detroit House of Corrections was transferred to the state in 1986, renamed to Western Wayne Correctional Facility, and became a women's facility for the rest of its tenure.
