The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) oversees prisons and the parole and probation population in the state of Michigan, United States. It has 31 prison facilities, and a Special Alternative Incarceration program, together composing approximately 41,000 prisoners. Another 71,000 probationers and parolees are under its supervision. (2015 figures) The agency has its headquarters in Grandview Plaza in Lansing, Michigan, Lansing. History MDOC previously contracted with Aramark for its food services. On July 13, 2015 it announced that it was switching to Trinity Services Group. Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility
Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility (IBC) is a prison in Ionia for men, run by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Facility The prison was opened in December 2001 and is a multi-level facility used for Michigan Department of Corrections male prisoners 18 years of age and older. On-site facilities provide for food service, health care, facility maintenance, storage, and prison administration. The facility is surrounded by two fences with razor-ribbon wire, and gun towers. Armed staff are also utilized to maintain perimeter security. Services The facility offers a library, recreational activities, education programs, substance-abuse treatment, religious services, group psychotherapy, psychiatry, gardening, and therapy. Onsite medical care is supplemented by local medical facilities. The prison is an In-Reach Facility for the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Effort (MPRI). List Of Michigan State Prisons
This is a list of current and former List of U.S. state prisons, state prisons and minimum security prison camps in Michigan. It does not include List of U.S. federal prisons, federal prisons or county jails located in that U.S. state, State. All facilities not otherwise indicated are facilities for men. Michigan State Prison (also called the Jackson Prison) was the first state prison, built in 1842. A larger prison building was built in 1926 and used until 2007. It was reorganized into separate prisons in 1988. The Detroit House of Corrections, built in 1861, was owned and run by the city of Detroit but originally accepted prisoners from throughout the state including women. The Detroit House of Corrections was transferred to the state in 1986, renamed to Western Wayne Correctional Facility, and became a women's facility for the rest of its tenure. The Michigan Reformatory was a state prison for men located in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan, owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections.
