MTV (Southeast Asia)
MTV was a pan-Asian music pay television channel that was launched on 5 May 1995 as a standalone pay television service. The channel was owned by Paramount Networks EMEAA. History Pre-launch The first incarnation of MTV Asia was launched on 15 September 1991 as part of a joint venture between the STAR TV Network and Viacom. On 2 May 1994, MTV Asia ended its partnership with STAR TV, and the channel space was subsequently taken over by Channel V on 27 May 1994. Launch MTV Southeast Asia was officially launched on 5 May 1995 at 8:00 p.m. Singapore Time (SGT) as a 24-hour English-language music channel, broadcasting from Singapore and available across Southeast Asia, including territories such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Singapore English (SgE, SE, en-SG) is the set of varieties of the English language native to Singapore. In Singapore, English is spoken in two main forms: Singaporean Standard English, which is indistinguishable grammatically from British English, and Singaporean Colloquial English, which is better known as Singlish. Singapore is a cosmopolitan society. Star Hub TV is a pay television service provided by StarHub in Singapore. It has been a subsidiary of ''StarHub Limited'' since StarHub acquired ''Singapore Cable Vision'' (SCV) in 2001, and was the sole pay-TV operator in the country until 2007 when mio TV (now Singtel TV), an IPTV service from its competitor, Singtel, was launched. Singapore Time (SGT), also known as Singapore Standard Time (SST), is used in Singapore and is 8 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC+08:00). A video jockey (abbreviated VJ or sometimes veejay) is an announcer or host who introduces music videos and live performances on commercial music television channels such as MTV, VH1, Much (TV channel), MuchMusic and Channel V. Origins The term "video jockey" comes from the term "disc jockey", "DJ" ("deejay") as used in radio. Music Television (MTV) popularized the term in the 1980s (see List of MTV VJs). The MTV founders got their idea for their VJ host personalities from studying Merrill Aldighieri's club. Shenton Way is a major trunk road serving Singapore's Central Area and is most commonly known for the commercial skyscrapers flanking both sides of the road. MTV Indonesia
MTV Indonesia (PT Musik Televisi Indonesia until 2007) was an MTV-affiliated Indonesian television network. The network, which originally launched on May 5, 1995, on ANteve, was the fifth affiliate launched under the MTV brand. In 2002, it was one of the first MTV-affiliates to broadcast for 24 hours a day free-to-air over UHF. MTV Indonesia was part of the programming block on ANteve along with other MTV Asia programs.
