MS Vana Tallinn
MS ''Vana Tallinn'' (''Old Tallinn'' in Estonian language, Estonian) was a cruiseferry owned by the Estonian ferry company Tallink and operated on the line between Kapellskär and Paldiski. She was built in 1974 by Aalborg Shipyard, Aalborg Skibsværft AS, Aalborg, Denmark for DFDS as MS ''Dana Regina,'' and has sailed under the names MS ''Nord Estonia'' and MS ''Thor Heyerdahl.'' History The ''Dana Regina'' was ordered in 1969 by DFDS, the oldest operational Danish shipping company. The ship was completed in 1974 and christened MS ''Dana Regina''. After a promotional cruise from Copenhagen to Esbjerg via Harwich and London she started scheduled service on the Harwich–Esbjerg route on 8 July 1974. In January 1977 the ship was rebuilt at Hamburg, Germany with an enlarged car capacity. In October 1983 the ''Dana Regina'' was transferred to Copenhagen–Oslo route. DFDS is a Danish international shipping and logistics company. It is the busiest shipping company of its kind in Northern Europe and one of the busiest in Europe. The company's name is an abbreviation of Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab (literally ''The United Steamship Company''). DFDS was founded in 1866, when C.F. Aalborg Shipyard
Aalborg Shipyard (''Danish language, Danish: Aalborg Værft A/S'') was a shipyard located in Aalborg, Denmark. Founded in 1912 by brothers Immanuel Stuhr and Peter Philip Stuhr, the shipyard was founded under the name Stuhr Engine and Ship Construction, a development of their father's business. From 1937 until the yard closed in 1988, it was owned by J. Lauritzen A/S. Ships built at Aalborg Shipyard Closure In 1988, the company was split into five separate companies: *Danyard Aalborg, part of Royal Denship *Aalborg steelworks *Aalborg Industries (Boilers) *Norks Industrial Services (NIS) *Danish Railway Club (Limfjord path). The diesel engine, named after Rudolf Diesel, is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel is caused by the elevated temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical compression; thus, the diesel engine is a so-called compression-ignition engine (CI engine).
