Lyonnais (band)
Lyonnais is an experimental rock band based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The band consists of Farbod Kokabi, Farzad Moghaddam, Lee Tesche, and TJ Blake. Tesche is a founding member of the band Algiers, while Kokabi and Moghaddam run the Geographic North record label. Blake is a member of Lotus Plaza's touring band, the solo project of Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt. Background Lyonnais formed in 2008 after Kokabi and Moghaddam watched a Rhys Chatham performance together and set about trying to fill a void in the experimental Atlanta music scene". Tesche and Blake were later added to the line-up, fleshing the band out. The band spent their first three years performing dates with Deerhunter, Windy & Carl, Lightning Bolt, Zach Hill, Grouper, and members of Animal Collective while being named to Creative Loafing's Best of Atlanta list each year from 2009 to 2011. Lightning Bolt is an American noise rock duo from Providence, Rhode Island, composed of Brian Chippendale on drums and vocals and Brian Gibson on bass guitar. The band met and formed in 1994 as students of the Rhode Island School of Design. Lightning Bolt were listed 8th in Metacritic's Artists of the Decade 2000–09. Animal Collective is an American experimental pop band formed in Baltimore, Maryland. Grouper is the solo project of American musician, artist and producer Liz Harris (born July 15, 1980). She has released material on her own label and other independent labels since 2005. Grouper released the critically acclaimed ''Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill'' in 2008, followed by five more records, including a two-part album, ''A I A'', and the piano-led album ''Ruins''. Her twelfth album, '' Shade'', was released in 2021. Zachary Charles Hill (born December 28, 1979) is an American multi-instrumentalist and visual artist. He is best known as the drummer and co-producer of the groups Death Grips and the I.L.Y's, and as the drummer of math rock band Hella. Art In addition to music, Hill is also a visual artist. Windy & Carl
Windy & Carl is an American ambient duo based in Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Overview Cited as "a leading light of the Michigan space-rock scene" by AllMusic, the minimalist group formed in 1993 around the core husband-and-wife duo of guitarist Carl Hultgren and bassist/singer Windy Weber. (Most of the band's pieces feature no vocals, however.) The band was prolific from the outset up to 2001, whereupon they took a hiatus of a few years. The music of Windy & Carl borrows heavily from the sounds of 1980s era bands on 4AD Records, specifically that of Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins and various other dream pop and shoegazer acts. Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Rhys Chatham (born September 19, 1952) is an American composer, guitarist, trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist (flutes in C, alto and bass, keyboard), primarily active in avant-garde and minimalist music. He is best known for his "guitar orchestra" compositions. He has lived in France since 1987. Early years Chatham began his musical career as a piano tuner for avant-garde pioneer La Monte Young as well as harpsichord tuner for Gustav Leonhardt, Rosalyn Tureck and Glenn Gould. Deerhunter
Deerhunter is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2001. The band currently consists of Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Moses Archuleta (drums, electronics, sound treatments), Lockett Pundt (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Josh McKay (bass) and Javier Morales (keyboards, synthesizers, alto saxophone). Founded by Cox and Archuleta, Deerhunter's first stable line-up included guitarist Colin Mee and bass guitarist Justin Bosworth. After recording a split EP with Alphabets, Bosworth died on March 29, 2004, of head injuries suffered during a skateboarding accident. He was 23 years old.
