Breton Democratic Union
Breton Democratic Union (, , UDB) is a Breton nationalist, autonomist, and regionalist political party in Brittany () and Loire-Atlantique. The UDB advocates devolution for Brittany as well as the promotion of its regional languages ( Breton and Gallo) and its associated culture. The Breton Democratic Union has presently four seats in the Regional council of Brittany. History Foundation The UDB was founded in 1964 in Rennes by a group of about fifteen young people, most of them students, often from cultural organizations (Ar Falz, Bagadou, etc.) and influenced by socialist ideas. They included Ronan Leprohon (1939–2017) and Pierre Le Moine (1927–2023). The majority belonged to the "Mouvement pour l'organisation de la Bretagne" organization which also included former militants of Breton Nationalist Party and supporters of French Algeria, which was a cause of tensions. Yannick Jadot (; born 27 July 1967) is a French environmental activist and politician who ran for President of France in 2022, placing sixth with 4.6% of the vote. A member of The Ecologists (LÉ), he was elected to represent Paris in the Senate in 2023. A member of the Greens from 1999, Jadot was a campaign director for Greenpeace France from 2002 to 2008. He headed his party's list for the West France constituency in the 2009 European Parliament election, in which he was elected to the European Parliament, where he held a seat until 2023. Following his party's primary, he was nominated as the Europe Ecology – The Greens (EELV) candidate in the 2017 French presidential election, before withdrawing and endorsing Socialist Party candidate Benoît Hamon.
