Luz-Ardiden
Luz Ardiden is a ski resort in the Pyrenees. It is situated in the Hautes-Pyrénées department, in the Occitanie Region. The ski resort lies at a height of and was opened on 16 January 1975. In recent years the road to Luz Ardiden has served as an occasional stage finish for the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Geography Luz-Ardiden is located in the north of the in the Pyrenees, at an altitude of between . The ski resort is located west-north-west of the town centre of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, by road. History The idea of a ski resort at Luz-Ardiden was developed by the local elected officials of the five communes of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, Grust, Sazos, Sassis and Viscos from 1966. Pyrenees
The Pyrenees are a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. They extend nearly from their union with the Cantabrian Mountains to Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean coast, reaching a maximum elevation of at the peak of Aneto. Luz-Saint-Sauveur (; Gascon: ''Lus e Sent Sauvaire'', before 1962: ''Luz'') is a commune in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region of south-western France. It lies on the river Bastan, a tributary of the Gave de Pau. Its inhabitants are called ''Luzéens'' and ''Luzéennes'' in French. The 1994 Tour de France was the 81st edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Tour began on 2 July with a prologue around the French city Lille. After 21 more days of racing, the Tour came to a close on the street of the Champs-Élysées. Twenty-one teams entered the race that was won by Miguel Induráin of the team. Second and third respectively were the Latvian Piotr Ugrumov and the Italian rider, Marco Pantani. Miguel Induráin first captured the lead after the stage 9 individual time trial. Roberto Laiseka Jaio (born 17 June 1969) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer. He retired in 2006, after 13 seasons as a professional with the team, after he could not recover from a knee injury suffered in the 2006 Giro d'Italia.
