Lunde Church (Vest-Agder)
Lunde Church ( no, Lunde kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the large Sirdal Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Lunde in the Øvre Sirdal area of the municipality. It one of the four churches in the Sirdal parish which is part of the Lister og Mandal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1873 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 250 people. History A small chapel was built at Lunde in the upper Sirdalen valley in 1819. In the 1840s, plans were discussed to replace Tonstad Church and this chapel with a new, larger church in a more central location (at Hompland). These plans were ultimately rejected by the parish and instead, both churches would be rebuilt and enlarged. By a Royal Decree on 29 October 1847, Lunde chapel was approved as a parish church. Sirdal is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the northwestern part of the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Tonstad. Other villages in Sirdal include Bjørnestad, Haughom, Kvæven, Lunde, and Tjørhom. The municipality is the 52nd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Sirdal is the 291st most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 1,810. Jacob Von Der Lippe
Jacob von der Lippe (27 September 1797–2 October 1878) was a Norwegian politician and priest who served as Bishop of the Diocese of Christianssand from 1841 to 1875. He was also a member of the Parliament of Norway for a total of eight non-consecutive parliamentary terms from 1829 until 1861. Education Jacob von der Lippe was born in Bergen, Norway on 27 September 1797 into a merchant family. After graduating with an Examen artium certificate in 1818, he went on to study theology at the Royal Frederick University in Christiania where he received a Cand.theol. degree in 1819. Tonstad Church ( no, Tonstad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the large Sirdal Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tonstad. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1461, but the first church here may have been built in the early 13th century. The first church here was likely a stave church and it was dedicated to St. Mary. In 1639, records show that a runic inscription about the Virgin Mary in the north tower was found and dated to around the year 1200, making it likely that the church was built before that time.
