Lucy Kalapura (born 5 June 1965), is former nun who previously belonged to the Franciscan Clarist Congregation in Mananthavady, Wayanad. Activism Kalappurakkal joined the Franciscan Clarist Congregation at the age of 17 after she made a private vow to become a nun. She was criticized by the church for speaking out against Bishop Franco Mulakkal Franco Mulakkal is an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, until changing his sui iuris to the Latin church in lieu with mission work. He worked as the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese ..., who was then accused of multiple counts of sexual assault of another nun at Kuravilangad convent in Kerala's Kottayam district between 2014 and 2016. Kuthuparamba or Koothuparamba is a municipality in Kannur district of Kerala, India. It is about 24 km southeast of Kannur and 14 km east of Thalassery. Franciscan Clarist Congregation
The Third Order of Saint Francis, or Franciscan Tertiaries, is the third order of the Franciscan tradition of Christianity, founded by the medieval Italian Catholic friar Francis of Assisi. Francis founded the Third Order, originally called the Brothers and Sisters of Penance, in 1221, to accommodate men and women who, either from already being in consecrated life as hermits, or from being married, were ineligible to join the Franciscan First or Second Orders, respectively. Wayanad () is a district in the north-east of the Indian state of Kerala, with its administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is the only plateau in Kerala. Franco Mulakkal
Franco Mulakkal is an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, until changing his sui iuris to the Latin church in lieu with mission work. He worked as the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar from 2013 until his arrest in 2018 on charges of raping a nun. He is the first bishop in Indian Catholic to be arrested for being accused in a rape case. In January 2022 the Kerala district court declared him innocent without the witnesses changing their statements. The court heard the statements of 39 witnesses in the case and he was acquitted of all charges. But the nuns are still fighting for their cause.
