Kannur (), formerly known in English as Cannanore, is a city and Municipal corporation (India), municipal corporation in the state of Kerala, India. It is the administrative headquarters of the Kannur district and situated north of the major port city and commercial hub Kochi and south of the major port city and a commercial hub, Mangalore. During the period of British Raj, British colonial rule in India, when Kannur was a part of the Malabar District (Madras Presidency), the city was known as Cannanore. Kannur is the fifth largest urban agglomeration in Kerala. As of 2011 census, Kannur Municipal Corporation, the local body which administers mainland area of city, had a population of 232,486. Kannur International Airport
Kannur International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Kannur, the Mahé district, Mahé district of Puducherry and the rest of northern Kerala in India. It is located in Mattanur, east of Kannur and east of Thalassery. It is owned and operated by Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL), a public–private partnership, public–private consortium. The airport opened for commercial operations on 9 December 2018. The airport served one million passengers in just nine months since commercial operations began. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the airport could maintain stable growth, and it achieved the milestone of two million passengers in the twenty-third month of operations in November 2020. Kannur District
Kannur () is one of the 14 Districts of Kerala, districts along the west coast in the state of Kerala, India. The city of Kannur is the district headquarters and gives the district its name. The old name, Cannanore, is the anglicized form of the Malayalam name "Kannur". Kannur district is bounded by Kasaragod District to the north, Kozhikode district to the south, Mahé district to the southwest and Wayanad District to the southeast. The Kannur Municipal Corporation is the municipal corporation that administers the city of Kannur, Kerala. Established in 2015, the Corporation's first mayor was E. P. Latha. Kannur Corporation has two assembly constituencies – Kannur Assembly constituency and Azhikode Assembly constituency – both of which are part of the Kannur parliamentary constituency. Kannur Legislative Assembly Constituency is one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala in southern India. Ezhimala (hill, Kannur)
Ezhimala, a hill reaching a height of , is located near Payyanur, in Kannur District, Kannur district of Kerala, South India. It is a part of a conspicuous and isolated cluster of hills, forming a promontory, north of Kannur (Cannanore). The Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala is Asia's largest, and the world's third-largest, naval academy. As the former capital of the ancient Kolathunadu Kingdom of the Mushikas, Ezhimala is considered to be an important historical site. Kadannapalli Ramachandran
Kadannappalli Ramachandran (born 1 July 1944) is an Indian politician who is serving as the Minister for Ports, Museums, Archaeology and Archives of Kerala since December 2023. He previously held the same position from 2016 to 2021. Ramachandran also served as the Minister for Devaswom of Kerala from 2009 to 2011. He is a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly representing Kannur since 2016. Prior to that, he represented Edakkad from 2006 to 2011, and Irikkur from 1980 to 1982 in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
