Lucien Hibbert
Lucien Hibbert (18 August 1899 – 5 February 1964) was a Haitian public servant and mathematician. He was the first Haitian to receive a doctoral degree in mathematics and is remembered for his roles in government and higher education administration. In the administration of President Sténio Vincent, Hibbert served as the minister of finance for Haiti from 1932 to 1934 and was subsequently foreign minister until 1935. He was a commander of the French Legion of Honor. Born to Fernand Hibbert and Marie Pescaye in 1899, Lucien Hibbert earned his doctoral degree from the Université de Paris in 1937. His dissertation consisted of two theses, ''Univalence et automorphie pour les polynômes et les fonctions entières'' and ''Sur les équations du problème de l'Interdépendance des Marchés''. Sténio Joseph Vincent (; February 22, 1874 – September 3, 1959) was President of Haiti from November 18, 1930 to May 15, 1941. Biography Sténio Vincent was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His parents were Benjamin Vincent and Iramène Brea, who belonged to the mulatto elite. Presidency In October 1930, while still under occupation by the United States, Haitians elected representatives to the national assembly for the first time since 1918. It elected Vincent as President of Haiti. He had graduated from law school at age 18 before ascending to head of Haiti's Chamber of Deputies by 1915. Fernand Hibbert (3 October 1873 – 1928) was a Haitian novelist and is one of the most widely read Haitian authors.P. Paul Antoine Aristide Montel (29 April 1876 – 22 January 1975) was a French mathematician. He was born in Nice, France and died in Paris, France. He researched mostly on holomorphic functions in complex analysis. Montel was a student of Émile Borel at the Sorbonne. Henri Cartan, Jean Dieudonné and Miron Nicolescu were among his students. Georges Darmois
Georges Darmois (24 June 1888 – 3 January 1960) was a French mathematician and statistician. He pioneered in the theory of sufficiency, in stellar statistics, and in factor analysis. He was also one of the first French mathematicians to teach British mathematical statistics. Frédéric Marty
Frédéric Ladislas Joseph Marty (23 June 1911 in Albi, Tarn – 14 June 1940, Gulf of Finland) was a French mathematician. Frédéric Marty's father was the mathematician Joseph Marty (1885–1914), who taught at the lycée d'Albi and as a French army officer was killed in action in WW I. Frédéric Marty received his doctorate in 1931 from the École normale supérieure (ENS). After that he was a ''maître de conférences'' at Aix-Marseille University. He was a French Air Force lieutenant in WW II and was a victim of the Aero Flight 1631 shootdown when he was a diplomatic courier on board a Finnish plane that was shot down by the Soviet Air Force. Jacques Salomon Hadamard (; 8 December 1865 – 17 October 1963) was a French mathematician who made major contributions in number theory, complex analysis, differential geometry, and partial differential equations. Biography The son of a teacher, Amédée Hadamard, of Jewish descent, and Claire Marie Jeanne Picard, Hadamard was born in Versailles, France and attended the Lycée Charlemagne and Lycée Louis-le-Grand, where his father taught.
