The Los Angeles Rugby Club (LARC) is a rugby union club in South Bay in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is a member of the Southern California Rugby Football Union within USA Rugby. History Competing continuously for over 50 years, The Los Angeles Rugby Club is the second oldest club in the Southern California Rugby Football Union (SCRFU). The Club was founded in 1958 as the Universities Rugby Club. Founding members included Al Williams and Dick Hyland, members of the Gold Medal winning 1924 USA Olympic Rugby Team. Los Angeles Rugby Club (LARC) has contributed extensively to the development of the game of Rugby Union Football on the Pacific Coast and the USA. The South Bay is a region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, located in the southwest corner of Los Angeles County. The name stems from its geographic location stretching along the southern shore of Santa Monica Bay. Old Mission Beach Athletic Club RFC
Old Mission Beach Athletic Club Rugby, commonly referred to as OMBAC Rugby, is a rugby union team based in San Diego, California. It is directly affiliated with the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. History The club was established in 1966 under the wing of Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) which was founded in 1954. Many past students of San Diego State Aztecs Rugby Club joined, and the OMBAC rugby club entered first division competition two years later in 1968. The club has won 6 national Rugby Sevens titles and 8 national Rugby Fifteens titles. Al Caravelli (born 1959 or 1960 in Queens, New York) is head coach of the Philippines national rugby sevens team. He was head coach of the United States national rugby sevens team from 2006 until 2012. Caravelli inherited a team that was on a 30 game losing streak. The US national sevens team improved steadily on the IRB Sevens World Series circuit under Caravelli's leadership, improving from 15th during the 2006-07 season to 10th during the 2010-11 season. Caravelli managed to transform the US team into a legitimate IRB Sevens World Series contender in his first few years. Following several strong performances in several tournaments during 2006-08, in 2008 the US team was promoted to "core" status as one of the 12 teams competing in all events on the IRB Sevens World Series. Gary Cunningham (born c. 1940/1941) is an American former basketball player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 1977 to 1979, guiding the UCLA Bruins to a 50–8 record in two seasons. UCLA won conference championships and finished with a #2 ranking in the final polls both seasons. Cunningham has the highest winning percentage of any coach in UCLA men's basketball history (.862). He left to become an associate professor and athletic director at Western Oregon State College, citing a love of administration more than coaching. Cunningham played basketball at UCLA on the varsity team from 1960 to 1962. He played in the first Final Four appearance for the Bruins in the 1962 NCAA tournament. Joe Clarkson
Joe Clarkson (born February 21, 1957) is an English-American former international rugby union player. Clarkson played his early rugby in the north of England, as a fullback with Northern, Newcastle University, Northumberland, Headingley and Yorkshire, before relocating to the United States in the early 1980s. While based in California, Clarkson represented the United States as a fly-half in five capped matches in 1986 and 1987, kicking all nine of the team's points on debut, to secure a draw against Japan. Belmont Shore Rugby Club is an American rugby union team named after the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, California, which has a tradition of amateur rugby.
