Los Angeles Handicap
The Los Angeles Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California during the spring racing season. It was previously run at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California), which closed in 2013. A Grade III sprint race run on dirt over a distance of six furlongs, it is open to horses aged three and older. The race was not run in 2018. From 2007 to 2013, it was run on ( Cushion Track synthetic dirt. For 2015 only, the race was run at Los Alamitos Racetrack and shortened to furlongs due to the track dimensions. Prior to 1979, the race was run at a distance of seven furlongs. The 1968 race was run in two divisions. Santa Anita Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Arcadia, California, United States. It offers some of the prominent horse racing events in the United States during early fall, winter and in spring. Cyclometer (horse)
The cyclometer was a cryptologic device designed, "probably in 1934 or 1935," by Marian Rejewski of the Polish Cipher Bureau's German section (BS-4) to facilitate decryption of German Enigma ciphertext. The original machines are believed to have been destroyed shortly before the German invasion of Poland that launched the Second World War, to prevent the Germans learning that their cipher had been broken. Together with Rejewski's later cryptologic bomb, it can be viewed as a predecessor to the Bombe that was later to break the Enigma code later in the war at Bletchley Park in England. Using drawings made by Rejewski, Hal Evans and Tim Flack at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, in 2019 constructed a working version of the cyclometer. Robert A. Baffert (born January 13, 1953) is an American racehorse trainer who trained the 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify. Baffert's horses have won a record six Kentucky Derbies, seven Preakness Stakes, three Belmont Stakes, and three Kentucky Oaks. Major Austin Cotterell Taylor, CBE (January 17, 1889 – November 1, 1965) was a Canadian mining executive and developer, financier, and philanthropist in developing thoroughbred horse racing in British Columbia. Background Born in East York, Ontario, Austin Taylor was educated at St. Andrew's College, located at that time in Toronto, Ontario; he would later become a member of the school's Board of Governors. Bruce Edmund Headley (14 February 1934 – 15 January 2021) was a Thoroughbred horse trainer and owner. Biography Involved with horse racing since his teens, Headley worked as an exercise rider from 1949 until taking out his trainers license in 1959. Based in California, he first gained national attention with Bertrando who won the 1991 Norfolk Stakes by a record nine lengths and went on to a second-place finish behind a brilliant performance by European star, Arazi. Headley's greatest success to date came with the Champion sprint horse Kona Gold, a winner of multiple stakes races including the 2000 Breeders' Cup Sprint.
