London Buses Route 180
London Buses route 180 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Erith Quarry and North Greenwich bus station, it is operated by Selkent, Stagecoach London. History In June 1992, a South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Leyland-DAB articulated bus was trialled for a month on the route along with a three-axle Citybus (Hong Kong), Citybus Leyland Olympian. On 14 February 1998, operation of the route passed from Selkent to Harris Bus. After Harris Bus ran into financial difficulty, on 25 March 2000 it was taken over by East Thames Buses. On 3 October 2009, East Thames Buses was sold to London General, which included a five-year contract to operate route 180. London General retained the route when re-tendered with a new contract commencing on 1 October 2016. South East London & Kent Bus Company Limited, trading as Stagecoach London, is a bus company operating in central and south London and some parts of north-west Kent. The Selkent brand is a subsidiary of Stagecoach London and operates services under contract to Transport for London. Go-Ahead London is a major bus operator in Greater London. The name first appeared in August 2008, before which the company had traded under separate names and brands. It is currently (as of April 2025) the largest bus operator in Greater London, operating a total of 157 bus routes mainly in South and Central London as well as some services into North and East London with a fleet size of 2270 vehicles under contract to Transport for London. ''Buses'' is a monthly magazine published in the United Kingdom that primarily focuses on the British bus and coach industry. Founded in 1949, the magazine was originally published by Ian Allan Publishing, however from March 2012 onwards, it has been published by Key Publishing after their takeover of the former. The current editor is James Day and is published on the third Thursday of each month. The magazine is accompanied by a yearbook published in August every year for the next year. Leyland Olympian
The Leyland Olympian is a 2-axle and 3-axle double-decker bus chassis that was manufactured by Leyland between 1980 and 1993. It was the last Leyland bus model in production. Construction The Olympian had the same chassis and running gear as the Leyland Titan integral double deck bus which was ordered in large numbers by London Transport. At the time there was a demand for non-integral vehicles, because operators wished to have the chassis bodied by other manufacturers. Thus Leyland created the B45 project, which was named Olympian, in 1979. This was in many ways an update of the popular Bristol VRT (Bristol Commercial Vehicles merged with Leyland in 1965), with many VR customers choosing Olympians. Citybus Limited () is a bus company which provides both franchised and non-franchised service in Hong Kong. Leyland-DAB Articulated Bus
The Leyland-DAB articulated bus is an articulated bus that was manufactured by Leyland-DAB in Denmark. The Leyland-DAB artic found customers in Denmark, and was the first modern style articulated bus in the United Kingdom, albeit with limited repeat orders. Leyland, being a mainly British manufacturer, had also had an overseas manufacturing interest in the Danish manufacturer Danish Automobile Building (DAB) since 1953, which used a number of Leyland parts in its own bus models. As a continental manufacturer, it had developed its own articulated bus model as an alternative to Volvo's articulated chassis. These were built with two body designs. South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) was the passenger transport executive for South Yorkshire. It was responsible for implementing policies set by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority (SYPTA) and for operation of the Authority's bus fleet from its formation in 1974 until its dissolution in 2023, when its assets and duties were transferred to the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
