Lloyd Holt
Lloyd Holt (December 31, 1937 – June 4, 2022) was a pioneering driver of dirt modified stock cars on the Niagara Frontier. In 1970, he became the inaugural track champion at the Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, New York. Racing career Holt got his start in 1957, when he entered a stock Hudson with a big six-cylinder engine in the jalopy class at Merrittville Speedway in Ontario. He soon moved up to the modified class where he also competed and was victorious in New York at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, Ransomville Speedway, Skyline Raceway in Virgil, and Weedsport Speedway, as well as Speedway Park in Stony Brook, Ontario. Holt claimed the 1967 Humberstone Speedway, Ontario track title as well as 1969 track championship at the Maple Grove Speedway in Waterloo, New York. Northeast Dirt Modified Hall Of Fame
The Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to recognize individual achievements in the sport of stock car racing. It is located at 1 Speedway Dr., Weedsport, New York. History The inaugural induction ceremony was held on April 12, 1992, with 12 drivers and one pioneer driver being selected. The initial selection committee was composed of Gary Chadwick, Andy Fusco, Gary Rowe, Tom Skibinski, and Gary Spaid; all members of the motorsports media. The ceremony was followed by a Hall of Fame race at Weedsport Speedway. In 1993, the first non-driver racing award was added. The award was named after Area Auto Racing News founder Leonard J. Sammons Jr., and was established to recognize outstanding contributions to the sport. In subsequent years, awards honoring both car owners and mechanics/engineering were also presented. Waterloo, New York
Waterloo is a town in Seneca County, New York, United States. The population was 7,378 at the 2020 census. The town and its major community are named after Waterloo, Belgium, where Napoleon was defeated. There is also a village called Waterloo, the primary county seat of Seneca County. The Town of Waterloo is situated on the western border of the county, east of Geneva. Humberstone Speedway was a 3/8 mile dirt oval raceway located in Port Colborne, Ontario. Weedsport Speedway
Weedsport Speedway, formerly known as Cayuga County Fair Speedway, is a 3/8 mile oval dirt racetrack located on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport, New York. Auto racing In the early 1950s Stanley Dudzinski carved a one-third mile oval into a berry patch to practice driving his race car. He and his wife Irene further developed the facility and in 1955 the gates were opened for the first competitive event. Glenn Donnelly (originally with Ken Ermiger) purchased the race track in 1970, increasing the clay oval to 3/8 mile, and creating the flagship for the Super DIRTcar Series. In 2004, Donnelly sold the race track to the World Racing Group for $4.3 million. Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park
Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park is a three-eighths mile dirt oval raceway located in Central New York State. Overview Buck Townsley built the Skyline Speedway on top of a mountain and opened it in 1962. The track continued operating with several different promoters through 1976 and then reopened for a single year in 1980. The facility lay dormant until Frank and Gene Payne brought it back to life for the 1988 racing season, headlining with the Late Model division. Five Mile Point Speedway
File Mile Point Speedway was a quarter-mile semi-banked dirt Oval racing, oval Stock car racing, raceway located in the Southern Tier Region of New York State. Overview In 1951, husband and wife Irving and Anna Heath built the Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, New York, just outside of Binghamton. Races were initially sanctioned by the Southern Tier Stock Car Club which also sanctioned the Shangri-La Speedway just 30 miles away. Irving Heath passed away in 1965 and Anna remained the owner until selling the track to her grandson, "Heath" Andrew Harpell. In 2003 Harpell took control of the track, made several capital improvements to the facility, and kept the weekly modified programs rolling.
