Ransomville Speedway
Ransomville Speedway is a one-half mile semi-banked high-speed dirt oval raceway located ten miles from the Canadian-American border in Western New York. Overview Hall of Fame race driver Ed Ortiz and fifteen friends, self proclaimed the Slowpoke Club, got into racing by building the original Ransomville Speedway on property behind the Ortiz family car dealership in 1954. When land became available outside of town the Slowpoke Club formed a corporation, sold shares of stock, and passed the hat at races to come up with the down payment. A local woman advanced the money for the rest of the cost and held the mortgage and the Ransomville Speedway opened at its current location in 1958. When the track became available in 1972, Canadian Stan Friesen, the 1969 track champion, along with a partner acquired it. Clay
Clay is a type of fine-grained natural soil material containing clay minerals (hydrous aluminium phyllosilicates, e.g. kaolin, Al2 Si2 O5( OH)4). An oval track differs from a road course in that the layout resembles an oval with turns in only one direction, and the direction of traffic is almost universally counter-clockwise. Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing run on oval tracks and road courses measuring approximately . It originally used production-model cars, hence the name "stock car", but is now run using cars specifically built for racing. Western New York
Western New York (WNY) is the westernmost region of the U.S. state of New York. The eastern boundary of the region is not consistently defined by state agencies or those who call themselves "Western New Yorkers". The Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to recognize individual achievements in the sport of stock car racing. Ed Ortiz
Edward "Ed" Oritz (September 19, 1931 – April 16, 2020) was an American Modified racing driver. Equally adept on both dirt and asphalt surfaces, he raced from Canada to New Jersey, and is credited with 200 feature wins in a career that spanned five decades. Racing career Ed Ortiz and fifteen friends got into racing in 1954, building the original Ransomville Speedway on the property behind his father's car dealership. Four years later, the group raised sufficient funds to purchase their own land, and the current Ransomville Speedway was built at its present location. Ortiz won the track's championship in 1962. Ortiz claimed additional track championships at Merrittville Speedway ON (1961), Canandaigua Speedway NY (1962, 1963), Lancaster Speedway NY (1966), and Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge NY (1971). Castellani Art Museum
The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University is an art museum centrally located on the University's main campus in the town of Lewiston. The museum features exhibitions of nationally known and emerging contemporary artists and traditional folk arts. History The Castellani Art Museum collection was initiated in 1976 by Armand J. Castellani to encourage the study and love of art and to improve cultural understanding by forming a significant collection for Niagara University students and the Western New York public.
