Lithuania is a European Parliament constituency for elections in the European Union covering the member state of Lithuania. It is currently represented by eleven Members of the European Parliament. Member of the European Parliament, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are Elections in the European Union, elected by the population of the Member state of the European Union, member states of the European Union (EU). The European Electoral Act 2002 allows member states the choice to allocate electoral district, electoral subdivisions or constituencies (; ; ; ) for the European Parliament elections in several different ways. Most EU countries operate a single national constituency which elects MEPs for the whole country. Liberal And Centre Union
The Liberal and Centre Union (, LiCS) was a conservative-liberal political party in Lithuania active between 2003 and 2014. It was a member of the Liberal International and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). History LiCS was formed in 2003 by a merger of the Liberal Union of Lithuania, Centre Union of Lithuania and Modern Christian Democratic Union. The combined party was led by Gintautas Babravičius. In the 2004 European Parliamentary Elections it gained 11.2% of the vote and returned two MEPs. In the 2004 parliamentary elections on 10 October 2004, the party won 9.1% of the popular vote and 18 out of 141 seats in the Seimas. Initially, the party joined opposition with the Homeland Union. Valdemar Tomaševski
Waldemar Tomaszewski (former spelling ''Valdemar Tomaševski'', born 3 March 1965) is a Polish-Lithuanian politician who is also an activist for the Polish minority in Lithuania and Member of the European Parliament (MEP). Leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (LLRA), Tomaszewski has been an MEP since 2009. He sits in the European Conservatives and Reformists group, of which he is a Member of the Bureau on the group executive. Biography Tomaszewski studied mechanics at the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (now Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) in 1983 and graduated in 1990. First elected to Vilnius district council for Electoral Action in 1995, Tomaszewski was elected President of LLRaL in 1999. Zigmantas Balčytis
Zigmantas Balčytis (born 16 November 1953) is a Lithuanian politician who briefly served as acting Prime Minister of Lithuania in 2006. He took office on 1 June 2006 following the resignation of Algirdas Brazauskas, but failed to be approved by the Parliament to become prime minister. He was succeeded on 4 July by Gediminas Kirkilas. Balčytis was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP) until 2021 and was Minister of Finance in the Brazauskas government from 2005 to 2007. Vilija Blinkevičiūtė (born 3 March 1960) is a Lithuanian lawyer and politician, Member of the European Parliament and former long-term Ministry of Social Security and Labour (Lithuania), Minister for Social Security and Labour. Blinkevičiūtė is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania since 2006. In 2024, Blinkevičiūtė led the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania in the 2024 Lithuanian parliamentary election, parliamentary elections, where the party emerged as the largest faction in the Seimas. 2009 European Parliament Election In Lithuania
The 2009 European Parliament election in Lithuania was the election of the delegation from Lithuania to the European Parliament in 2009. It was a part of the wider 2009 European Parliament election. The Homeland Union ( European Peoples Party) doubled their representation from 2 to 4, whilst Labour shrank from 5 to 1. Eugenijus Maldeikis
Eugenijus Maldeikis (born 27 August 1958, in Anykščiai) is a Lithuanian politician. Maldeikis served twice as Lithuanian Minister of Economy, during Paksas Cabinet I in 1999, and as part of Paksas Cabinet II from 2000 to 2001. His second stint as economics minister overlapped with his tenure on the Eighth Seimas of Lithuania which began in 2000. From 2003, the Seimas appointed Maldeikis a Lithuanian observer to the European Union. After the death of Rolandas Pavilionis, Maldeikis replaced him as a member of the European Parliament from 18 May 2006 until 2009. While serving on the European Parliament, Maldeikis represented the Lithuanian Liberal Democratic Party within the Union for Europe of the Nations parliamentary group. The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (, LVŽS)The party is also known as Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union. is a green-conservative and agrarian political party in Lithuania led by Ramūnas Karbauskis. Vytautas Landsbergis (; born 18 October 1932) is a Lithuanian politician and former Member of the European Parliament. He was the first Speaker of Reconstituent Seimas of Lithuania after its independence declaration from the Soviet Union. Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats
The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (, TS–LKD), also colloquially known as the Conservatives (), is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 28 of 141 seats in the Seimas.
