Ehud Barak
Ehud Barak ( ; born Ehud Brog; 12 February 1942) is an Israeli former general and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Israel, prime minister from 1999 to 2001. He was leader of the Israeli Labor Party, Labor Party between 1997 and 2001 and between 2007 and 2011. Tzali Reshef
Betzalel "Tzali" Reshef (; born 23 June 1953) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party between August 2002 and February 2003. Biography Reshef obtained a bachelor's degree in law and economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a master's degree in law from Harvard University. He then began working as an attorney. One of the founders of Peace Now, he authored a book on the organisation in 1996 entitled ''Peace Now: From the Officers' Letter to the Peace Now''. Prior to the 1999 elections he was placed 35th on the One Israel list (an alliance of Labor, Meimad and Gesher), but failed to become a Knesset member as the alliance won only 26 seats. Ra'anan Cohen
Ra'anan Cohen (; born 28 February 1941) is an Israeli former politician who served as a government minister during the early 2000s. Biography Born in Baghdad in Iraq, Cohen emigrated to Israel in 1951. During his youth he was a counsellor in the HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed youth movement, and was secretary of the Labor Party youth guard in Bnei Brak until 1970. He took Middle Eastern studies at Tel Aviv University, gaining a BA, MA and PhD in the subject. He served as chairman of Labor Party's Arab and Druze branch between 1975 and 1986, and from 1986 to 1992 chaired the party's elections branch. In 1988 he was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment list. He was re-elected in 1992 (by which time the Alignment had merged into the Labor Party) and 1996. Avraham Burg
Abraham "Avrum" Burg (; born 19 January 1955) is an Israeli author, politician and businessman. He was a member of the Knesset, chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Speaker of the Knesset, and Interim President of Israel. He was the first Speaker of the Knesset to have been born in Israel after its declaration of independence in 1948. A member of the Labor Party when he was a member of the Knesset, Burg announced in January 2015 that he had joined Hadash. Colette Avital (; born 1 May 1939) is a Romanian-Israeli diplomat and politician. She served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party and One Israel between 1999 and 2009. Biography Born in Bucharest, Romania, Avital made aliyah to Israel with her family in 1950. While still a student, she began working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a secretary in order to cover the cost of her tuition. Over the years, she rose through the ranks at the ministry; she served with the Israeli delegation to Paris between 1982 and 1985, as ambassador to Portugal from 1988 until 1992, and as Consul General in New York City between 1992 and 1996. Matan Vilnai (; born 20 May 1944) is an Israeli politician and a former major general in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). A former Knesset member and government minister, he was appointed ambassador to China in 2012. Eli Ben-Menachem (; born 24 November 1947) is an Israeli former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment, the Labor Party and One Israel between 1988 and 2006. Biography Born in Bombay, India (today Mumbai), Ben-Menachem emigrated to Israel in 1949. He studied at a military academy, and worked as an aircraft technician, eventually becoming chairman of the El Al workers' union. In 1988 he was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment list. Joseph "Yossi" Beilin (; born 12 June 1948) is an Israeli politician who has served in multiple ministerial and leadership positions in the Israeli government. Much of his political career was in the Labour Party. He also served as chairman of the Meretz-Yachad political party. Orit Noked (; born 25 October 1952) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Independence and the Labor Party and as Minister of Agriculture. Biography Born in Jerusalem in 1952, Noked studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She became a legal advisor to the Kibbutz Movement in 1986, a job she held until 1992. Shlomo Ben-Ami (; born 17 July 1943) is a former Israeli diplomat, politician, and historian who participated in the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, including the 2000 Camp David Summit. Biography Shlomo Benabou (later Ben-Ami) was born in Tangier, Morocco to Moroccan Jewish parents. He immigrated to Israel in 1955. Gesher (political Party)
Gesher (), officially the Gesher National Social Movement (, ''Gesher – Teno'a Hevratit Le'umit''), was a political party in Israel between 1996 and 2003. It formed when David Levy led a split from the Israeli center-right party Likud. Gesher helped to form coalition governments led by both Likud and the left-wing Labor Party, but never gained significant power. The party was eventually disbanded as Levy returned to Likud. In 2019, David Levy's daughter, Orly Levy set up a similar party named Gesher, which advocates for many of the same policies supported by her father.
