Lisa Rands
Lisa Rands (born October 21, 1975) is an American rock climber. She is known for her bouldering for which in 2002, she became the first American female to win IFSC World Cup bouldering competitions, and topped the IFSC world boulder rankings in 2002. Rands was the first American female to climb boulders of grade , and , and was the second-ever female in history to climb a boulder. As well as making first female ascents (FFAs) of boulders such as '' The Mandala'' , Rands was the first female in history to do an E8-graded traditional climbing route, ''The End of the Affair'' (E8 6c). Early life Rands was born in Southern California in 1975, where she grew up. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed on small rock formations or Climbing wall, artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or Climbing harness, harnesses. While bouldering can be done without any equipment, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, Magnesium carbonate, chalk to keep their hands dry and to provide a firmer grip, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls. Fred Nicole (born 21 May 1970) is a Swiss rock climber known for his first ascents of extreme sport climbing routes and for pioneering the development of standards and techniques in modern bouldering in the 1990s and early 2000s; he is considered an important climber in the history of the sport. Rocklands is a popular bouldering destination in South Africa. It is located less than 200km North of Cape Town, on the edge of the Cederberg Mountains. The area is known for its abundance of bright-orange sandstone boulders. Hueco Tanks is an area of low mountains and historic site in El Paso County, Texas, in the United States. It is located in a high-altitude desert basin between the Franklin Mountains (Texas), Franklin Mountains to the west and the Hueco Mountains to the east. Top Rope Climbing
Top rope climbing (or top roping) is a form of rock climbing where the climber is securely attached to a climbing rope that runs through a fixed anchor at the top of the climbing route, and back down to the belayer (or "second") at the base of the climb. A climber who falls will be held by the rope at the point of the fall, and can then either resume their climb or have the belayer lower them down in a controlled manner to the base of the climb. Climbers on indoor climbing walls can use mechanical auto belay devices to top rope alone. By definition, top roping can only be done on routes that are less than half the length of a typical climbing rope, which means single-pitch routes that are below in height. Camp 4 (Yosemite)
Camp 4 is a tent-only campground in Yosemite National Park in the United States. It became notable after World War II as "a birthplace of rock climbing’s modern age." It is located at an elevation of 4000 ft (1200 m) on the north side of the Yosemite Valley, close to base of granite cliffs near Yosemite Falls. ''Midnight Lightning'' is a high granite bouldering route on the Columbia Boulder in Camp 4 of Yosemite National Park. When first solved in May 1978 by American rock climber Ron Kauk, it was graded at , which was the world's second-ever boulder route at that grade, and the first in North America.
