Lindeberg is an area in Oslo, located in Groruddalen southwest of Furuset. The habitation in the area is a mixture of apartment buildings and townhouses. Lindeberg is divided into several housing cooperatives, including Ospa, Furua, Bjørka, Asken, Heggen, Pilen (all USBL) and Lindebergskogen, Søndre Lindeberg and Østre Lindeberg- Kløfterhagen (all OBOS). And Lutvannkollen housing cooperative. Lindeberg is located close to Østmarka and gives the residents close contact with forests and fields, and walking distance to Lutvann. Lindeberg is an Oslo Metro station on the Furuset Line (line 2) between Trosterud and Furuset. The station was opened on 19 February 1978 with the opening of the Trosterud-Furuset stretch of the line. The station is located underground. Jafet Lindeberg (September 12, 1874 – November 5, 1962) was a gold prospector and co-founder of the city of Nome, Alaska. Background Jafet Isaksen Lindeberg was born in Kvænangen, Troms county, in Norway. In his youth, he tried prospecting for gold in northern Norway. Lindeberg's father, Isak, was a farmer and fisherman. He had come to the region from the valley of Norrbotten, an ancient iron mining region in Norrbotten County, Sweden. Nome Gold Rush In the autumn of 1897, the U.S. Congress decided to send help to the gold miners in Klondike. The gold rush had escalated. Thousands of people rallied to the area, most of them completely unfamiliar with the harsh climate. The authorities feared a humanitarian disaster, with famine, epidemics and lawless conditions. It was difficult to send supplies. It was therefore decided that reindeer and able keepers were to be shipped from Norway to Klondike. Jarl Waldemar Lindeberg (4 August 1876, Helsinki – 24 December 1932, Helsinki) was a Finnish mathematician known for work on the central limit theorem. Life and work Lindeberg was son of a teacher at the Helsinki Polytechnical Institute and at an early age showed mathematical talent and interest. The family was well off and later Jarl Waldemar would prefer to be a reader than a full professor. Lindeberg's career centred on the University of Helsinki. His early interests were in partial differential equations and the calculus of variations but from 1920 he worked in probability and statistics. In 1920 he published his first paper on the central limit theorem. His result was similar to that obtained earlier by Lyapunov whose work he did not then know. However, their approaches were quite different; Lindeberg's was based on a convolution argument while Lyapunov used the characteristic function.
