Lightning Flash
''Lightning Flash'' is the 12th album by British pop group Brotherhood of Man. Released on EMI Records in 1983, it remains their final commercially released studio album. Background The album was released on EMI Records in July 1983 and was their only album with the label. This album was the first (and only) to feature new member Barry Upton who had replaced Lee Sheriden a year earlier and was their last work with long-time manager/producer and co-writer Tony Hiller. Upton took on the musical arrangement duties on ten of the twelve tracks, a role previously filled by Sheriden. Upton worked with studio session drummer Peter Boita at Boita's house in Upper Norwood London, programming all the drum tracks for the album. On going into Odyssey Studios all the drum tracks for the album were laid in one day Boita's LinnDrum computer which was also hooked up to his Simmons SDS7 Electronic drum head unit via a custom interface unit that Boita himself had developed. Brotherhood Of Man
Brotherhood of Man were a British pop group who achieved success in the 1970s with three number one hits in the UK. They won the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest with " Save Your Kisses for Me". Created in 1969 by songwriter and record producer Tony Hiller, Brotherhood of Man was initially an umbrella title for a frequently-changing line-up of session singers. Early on, they scored a worldwide hit with the song " United We Stand". By 1973 the concept had run its course and Hiller formed a definite four-member line-up consisting of Martin Lee, Lee Sheriden, Nicky Stevens and Sandra Stevens. This version of the group went on to score many hits around the world in the mid to late 1970s including "Kiss Me Kiss Your Baby", " Save Your Kisses for Me", " Angelo", " Oh Boy (The Mood I'm In)" and " Figaro". Good Fortune (Brotherhood Of Man Album)
''Good Fortune'' is a 1980 album by British pop group Brotherhood of Man. The album was recorded on manager Tony Hiller's label, Dazzle Records, but went unreleased in the UK. The album did get a release however in Australia and New Zealand on RCA Records. Today the album is virtually impossible to get hold of and is considered to be the 'holy grail' among fans. Background The album featured the singles "Honey Don't Throw Our Love Away" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", which were the first two singles released on Hiller's Dazzle label following their departure from Pye Records at the end of 1979. Track "Sugar Mouse" was released as a single in the Netherlands. Also included on the album was a cover version of the song " You're the Greatest Lover", which had been a million-seller in Europe for the Dutch group Luv', but was unknown in the UK. Brotherhood Of Man Albums
This is a discography of the singles and albums of British pop group Brotherhood of Man. All singles and albums from 1974 are from a completely different line-up to the earlier releases. The earlier releases (on the Deram label) were credited to ''The'' Brotherhood of Man. The group's first appearance on the chart was on 14 February 1970 in the UK with the single " United We Stand". This went on to become a hit in many other countries, including the US. The first chart appearance of the later line-up is with the 1974 single "Lady" in Belgium and Holland. The first appearance by this line-up in the UK is with the single "Save Your Kisses For Me" on 13 March 1976. Sandra Stevens
Sandra Stevens (born 23 November 1944) is an English singer and a member of the pop group Brotherhood of Man. Early career Sandra Stevens first entered into a singing career in the 1960s when she joined the club band, The Track (who then changed their name to The Nocturnes). The group was formed by drummer Ross Mitchell and among the six members Stevens sang vocals alongside Eve Graham (later of The New Seekers). Based in Manchester, the band played local clubs, performing pop hits of the day such as "The Loco-Motion" and "Da Doo Ron Ron". In early 1967 Stevens decided to leave the group and was replaced by Lyn Paul (also later of The New Seekers). Over the next few years she sang with the big bands of Joe Loss and Ken MacKintosh and also joined another group, Jason Flocks. Nicky Stevens
Nicky Stevens (born Helen Maria Thomas in Carmarthen, Wales, 3 December 1949) is a singer, famous as a member of pop group Brotherhood of Man. Early career Nicky Stevens began singing at an early age. At the age of four she was singing in a chapel in Carmarthen, and following lessons eventually joined the Hywel Girls Choir. She also studied classical music as a singer and pianist. At the age of 16 she held a residency in Swansea's Townsman nightclub. During this period she also took on a job as a telephone operator. This lasted for nine months and is the only job she has ever had outside the entertainment business. She later toured the Continent as a singer, performing in night clubs. Following this she went on to tour South Africa as well as clubs around the UK. Martin Lee (singer)
Martin Lee (born Martin Barnes, 26 November 1946 – 29 September 2024) was an English singer-songwriter, best known as a member of the pop group Brotherhood of Man. Lee was brought into Brotherhood of Man along with Lee Sheriden, Sandra Stevens, and Nicky Stevens by band manager Tony Hiller in 1972, when its original line up split up to pursue different music careers. The new version won the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 with their song "Save Your Kisses For Me". As well as a guitarist, Lee was the main lead vocalist for the group. ''Greenhouse'' is a 1997 album by British pop group Brotherhood of Man. The album was released independently by the group themselves on cassette only and was available to buy at their shows. The songs contained included a mix of re-recordings of their own hit singles and cover versions. It also contained one new track "Greenhouse" - a song recorded a few years earlier in 1991 with Dutch producer Eddy Ouwens, but never released. The song was later included on the download-only album ''The Definitive Collection'' in 2009. Brotherhood of Man themselves were credited as producers for the rest of the album (member Lee Sheriden had been the group's musical director on their recordings for many years). ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper published between 1954 and 1991, aimed at pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after ''New Musical Express'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. Neil Tennant
Neil Francis Tennant (born 10 July 1954) is an English singer, songwriter and music journalist, and co-founder of the synth-pop duo the Pet Shop Boys, which he formed with Chris Lowe in 1981. He was a journalist for '' Smash Hits'', and assistant editor for the magazine in the mid-1980s. Tennant coined the phrase imperial phase to describe the period in which a musical artist is regarded to be at their commercial and creative peak simultaneously. ''Smash Hits'' was a British music magazine aimed at young adults, originally published by EMAP. It ran from 1978 to 2006, and, after initially appearing monthly, was issued fortnightly during most of that time. The name survived as a brand for a spin-off digital television channel, which was later renamed Box Hits, and website. A digital radio station was also available but closed on 5 August 2013.
