Liberal-Environmental Party
Liberal Environmental Party ( cs, Liberálně-ekologická strana, LES) is a green-liberal political party in the Czech Republic. It was established by Martin Bursík as a split from Green Party. The party is pro-European and supports Václav Havel's legacy. History The LES participated in the 2014 European Parliament election but failed to win any seats, receiving 7544 votes (0.49%). Martin Bursík
Martin Bursík (born 12 August 1959 in Prague) is a Czech politician. Bursík has twice served as Minister of the Environment and is also former chairman of the Green Party. Early life and education In the 1980s, Bursík studied environmental engineering at the Charles University. In June 1989, he joined the dissident movement and signed the declaration of the anti-communist movement. During the Velvet Revolution in November 1989, he was one of the founders of the Civic Forum. The Civic Movement, which emerged from the Civic Forum and would later become the Party for the Open Society, nominated him as vice-chairman and he was elected into parliament. After the breakup of the Civic Movement, Bursík switched to the Free Democrats. He served as the Minister of the Environment under Josef Tošovský for a few months in 1998. List Of Political Parties In The Czech Republic
This is a list of political parties in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has a multi-party system. Due to the electoral system used, a limited number of parties are successful in each parliamentary election. Parliamentary parties There are currently seven parties in the Chamber of Deputies – ANO 2011, the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), Mayors and Independents (STAN), the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL), Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), TOP 09 and the Czech Pirate Party (Pirates). All of these parties except the SPD also have at least one seat in the Senate. Since the 2022 Czech Senate election, Senator 21 (SEN 21) have had four seats in the Senate, Mayors for the Liberec Region (SLK) have two Senate seats, and Svobodní have one Senate seat. An electoral list is a grouping of candidates for election, usually found in proportional or mixed electoral systems, but also in some plurality electoral systems. 2017 Czech Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in the Czech Republic on 20 and 21 October 2017. All 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies were elected and Andrej Babiš of ANO 2011, also the leader of the resultant government, became the Prime Minister. The coalition government following the 2013 legislative election consisted of the two largest parties: the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, and ANO 2011 (ANO), led by former Finance Minister and businessman Andrej Babiš, alongside the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU–ČSL). 2014 European Parliament Election In The Czech Republic
European Parliament elections were held in the Czech Republic on 23 and 24 May 2014. In total, 21 Members of the European Parliament were elected using proportional representation (single district D'Hondt with a 5% threshold). ANO won the election closely followed by the coalition of TOP 09 and STAN, themselves closely followed by ČSSD. A total of 7 parties gained seats, including the non-parliamentary Party of Free Citizens. Election turnout was 18.2%, the second lowest of all participating countries after Slovakia. The Senate (), literally "Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic", is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. The Chamber of Deputies, officially the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic ( cs, Poslanecká sněmovna Parlamentu České republiky), is the lower house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The chamber has 200 seats and deputies are elected for four-year terms using the party-list proportional representation system with the D'Hondt method. Since 2002, there are 14constituencies, matching the Czech regions.
