The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' in 2005, by order of first appearance. All characters were introduced by the soap's executive producer, Keith Richardson. Max King Max King, portrayed by Charlie Kemp, arrives in the village after backpacking with his girlfriend to attend his father's ill-fated wedding to Charity Dingle ( Emma Atkins). He then gets a job at Paddy Kirk's (Dominic Brunt) vet practice to support more travelling ventures. However, he is conned by his father in order to get land. ''Emmerdale'' (known as ''Emmerdale Farm'' until 1989) is a British television soap opera that is broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV. The show is set in Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994), a List of fictional towns and villages, fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, ''Emmerdale Farm'' was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Exterior scenes were first filmed in Arncliffe, North Yorkshire, Arncliffe in Littondale, and the series may have taken its name from Amerdale, an ancient name of Littondale. Charity Dingle
Charity Dingle (also Tate, Sharma and Macey) is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Emma Atkins. Suranne Jones originally auditioned for the role of Charity prior to Atkins being cast in the role. The actress began filming her first scenes in February 2000, and she made her first screen appearance as Charity during the episode broadcast on 30 March 2000. Actress Mica Proctor played a young Charity in a flashback episode about the character's past, which aired on 29 May 2018. Tom Lister (born Thomas Brown; 21 June 1978) is an English actor, known for his roles as Carl King in ''Emmerdale'' from 2004 to 2012, Harry Wainwright in '' Heartbeat'' and Rob Ingram in ''The Bill''. Early and personal life Lister was born as Thomas Brown, but took on his mother's maiden name when acting to avoid confusion with another actor under the name of Tom Brown. Kenneth Farrington
Kenneth William Farrington (born 18 April 1936) is a retired English actor. He first came to fame playing the role of Billy Walker, wayward son of publican Annie, in ITV's longest-running soap opera, ''Coronation Street''. Following a brief period as a film actor, Farrington secured the role of power-hungry Tom King in ''Emmerdale''. Sheila Mary Burrell (9 May 1922 – 19 July 2011) was a British actress. A cousin of Laurence Olivier, she was born in Blackheath, London, the daughter of a salesman. Andy Sugden (also Hopwood) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, ''Emmerdale'', played by Kelvin Fletcher. He made his first on-screen appearance on 4 July 1996. Karl Davies (born 6 August 1982) is an English actor who portrayed Lyle Anderson in the TV series '' Kingdom''. Previously, he had portrayed Robert Sugden in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. Robert Sugden is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. The character originally appeared on the show regularly between 22 April 1986 and 3 October 2005. During that time he was first played as a baby by Richard Smith between 1986 and 1989 before the role was taken over by Christopher Smith from 1989 until 2001.
