''Letters Home'' is the third studio album by American melodic hardcore band Defeater. Like their previous releases, ''Letters Home'' is a concept album, following the story of the father of the characters from these releases prior to the events of ''Travels''. Defeater (band)
Defeater is an American melodic hardcore band from Massachusetts, formed in 2004 within the Boston hardcore scene. To date they have released five full-length albums, two EPs and three singles. The band lineup consists of Derek Archambault (vocals), Jake Woodruff (guitar), Joe Longobardi (drums) and Mike Poulin (bass). All of the band's works have been released via Bridge 9 Records, aside from the album '' Travels'', which was initially released via Topshelf Records, but was later reissued on Bridge 9 Records. Their studio album, '' Letters Home, ''was released on July 16, 2013 and debuted at number 72 on Billboard Top 200 chart, number 1 on the vinyl chart and number 13 on the Current Alternative Album chart. They released an album in 2015 titled, Abandoned and in 2019 they released their self-titled album. Bridge 9 Records is an American hardcore punk record label located outside Boston, Massachusetts. Bridge Nine is owned by Chris Wrenn of Salem, Massachusetts, who began the label in 1995 and produced its first release in 1996. The label is named as a metaphor for what Wrenn wanted to do in creating the label: bridge all parts of the hardcore scene into one label and then put his lucky number (nine) in the title. The label currently has 8 employees and 30 active bands. In 2021, the label announced they were opening a record store. Melodic hardcore is a broadly defined subgenre of hardcore punk with a strong emphasis on melody in its guitar work. It generally incorporates fast rhythms, melodic and often distorted guitar riffs, and vocal styles tending towards shouting and screaming. Nevertheless, the genre has been very diverse, with different bands showcasing very different styles. ''Empty Days & Sleepless Nights'' is the second studio album by the American melodic hardcore band Defeater. The album was released on March 8, 2011, through Bridge Nine Records. It was recorded at guitarist Jay Maas' Getaway Recording Studios in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Background Though bassist Mike Poulin was a member of the band at the time, bass on the record was contributed by former guitarist Gus Pesce and Jay Maas. The album is split into two parts; the first, ''Empty Days'', showcases the band's usual melodic/post-hardcore style, while the second, ''Sleepless Nights'' consists of 4 acoustic tracks. ''Abandoned'' is the fourth studio album by American melodic hardcore band Defeater. ''Abandoned'' is a concept album, following the story of the Catholic priest in the song "Cowardice" from '' Travels''. This album is Defeater's first release with Epitaph Records. They went on tour in support of the album, supported by Four Year Strong, Expire, Superheaven, Speak Low If You Speak Love, My Iron Lung, and Elder Brother. Derek Archambault was quoted, " 'Abandoned''is the overall way that this character feels, be it by this god that he never really believed in, but took a leap for, to pay back this man that saved his life, or be it self-inflicted, where he leaves the woman he loves but takes it out on himself emotionally and through drug abuse. George Hirsch (musician)
George Hirsch is an American musician who performs as a vocalist in the hardcore band Blacklisted and solo folk project under the moniker Harm Wülf. He was originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but later moved to Chicago, Illinois. Music career When his previous band broke up, George Hirsch co-founded the hardcore punk band Blacklisted in 2003. After Blacklisted released the more experimental album '' No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me'' in 2009—an album with lyrics born out of Hirsch's struggles with depression—the band entered an undeclared hiatus state as each member focused on their respective new families and lives. In this downtime, Hirsch launched his solo project Harm Wülf, a stripped down semi-acoustic act that's often described as "dark folk".
