Les Transformateurs
The Les Transformateurs ( en, The Transformers; ) is a political party in Chad. It was part of the opposition to the Chadian President Idriss Déby, and the Transitional Military Council that succeeded him after his death in 2021. History The party was founded on 29 April 2018 by Succès Masra, to bring together Chadians "from the outside as well as from the inside" and to turn the country into a functioning social democracy. Masra and his party played a prominent role in the 2022 Chadian protests, condemning security forces for violence against protesters. Masra fled the country in the aftermath of the protests and lived in exile in the United States for some time. Succès Masra
Succès Masra (; born 30 August 1982) is a Chadian economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Chad from 1 January to 22 May 2024. Having formerly worked for the African Development Bank, in 2018 he founded Les Transformateurs, a political party that became part of the opposition against former president Idriss Déby, and following Déby's death in 2021, the Transitional Military Council. Masra lived in exile in the United States between 2022 and 2023, after the 2022 Chadian protests. In 2023, Masra stated his intention to return ahead of the 2023 constitutional referendum. Exile is primarily penal expulsion from one's native country, and secondarily expatriation or prolonged absence from one's homeland under either the compulsion of circumstance or the rigors of some high purpose. Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ( ar, محمد إدريس ديبي إتنو; born 1 January 1984), also known as Mahamat Kaka, is a Chadian army general serving as the transitional president of Chad. He is the son of the late Chadian President Idriss Déby. He gained power as the president of the Transitional Military Council on 20 April 2021 when his father, Idriss Déby died in action while commanding troops in the Northern Chad offensive. Presidential elections were held in Chad on 6 May 2024. The elections followed 2023 Chadian constitutional referendum, a constitutional referendum held on 17 December 2023, following the death of President Idriss Déby in 2021. Incumbent transitional president Mahamat Déby, the son of Idriss Déby, ran as the candidate of the Patriotic Salvation Movement, winning the election and leading to another extension of 34 years of rule by the Déby family.
