Lepidus Praecisio
''Lepidus'' is a genus of extinct theropod from the Upper Triassic of the United States. It lived in the Otis Chalk localities of the Dockum Group in Texas, from 231 to 223 million years ago. Discovery The locality from which ''Lepidus'' is known was discovered in the middle of February 1941 by the Works Progress Administration paleontology team in Texas. The precise geographic locality is precisely unknown, but at the least it is known that the locality is eight miles southeast of the city of Big Spring in Howard County, Texas. Using Google Earth and USGS cartographic maps, the describing authors were able to deduce the fossils were located in the vicinity of Signal Peak. The locality is situated in the Colorado City Formation, which is constrained to about 231-223 Ma in the Carnian to Norian stages of the Upper Triassic. It was first described in 2015 by Nesbitt & Ezcurra, who decided it warranted a new taxon, which they named ''Lepidus praecisio''. The generic name is ...

Colorado City Formation
The Colorado City Formation is a Late Triassic Formation (geology), geologic formation in the Dockum Group of Texas, United States. It has previously been known as the Iatan Member, Colorado City Member or 'Pre-Tecovas Horizon' (as it is assumed to be older than the Tecovas Formation). The Colorado City Formation is mostly restricted to Howard County, Texas, Howard and Borden County, Texas, Borden counties. The formation hosts the Otis Chalk fossil sites, named after a ghost town in Howard County. Despite their importance, the Otis Chalk localities have been difficult to resolve in the stratigraphy of Triassic Texas. They occupy a narrow band of sediments between the slightly older Camp Springs Formation and much younger Cretaceous deposits. The first major excavations near Otis Chalk were led by UMMP paleontologists starting in 1927. Several new phytosaur species were discovered during these digs. The Late Triassic is the third and final epoch of the Triassic Period in the geologic time scale, spanning the time between Ma and Ma (million years ago). A signal mountain or signal peak is a mountain suited to sending and receiving visual signals, either from its topographic prominence and isolation or from being located where signal communications are most needed.
