Leonardo, The International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology (Leonardo/ISAST) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 1982 as an umbrella organization for the journals ''Leonardo'' and the ''Leonardo Music Journal''. In 2018, Leonardo/ISAST was awarded the Golden Nica Prix Ars Electronica as Visionary Pioneers of New Media Art. History Leonardo/ISAST was founded by physicist Roger Malina, son of the ''Leonardo'' journal's founder, astronautical pioneer and artist Frank Malina. With the support of founding board members like Frank Oppenheimer, the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology (Leonardo/ISAST) was formed in 1982. ''Leonardo'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the MIT Press covering the application of contemporary science and technology to the arts and music. History The journal, ''Leonardo'', was established in 1968 by artist and scientist Frank Malina in Paris, France. Since 1968, ''Leonardo'' has published writings by artists who work with science- and technology-based art media. Journal operations were moved to the San Francisco Bay Area by Frank's son Roger Malina, an astronomer and space scientist, who took over operations of the journal upon Frank Malina's death in 1981. Piero Scaruffi (born 1955) is an Italian-American writer who maintains a website on which his reviews of music, film, and art are published. Djerassi Artists Residency
The Djerassi Artists Residency, also known as the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, is an artists and writers residency in San Mateo County, California, south of Woodside. The residency sits on a 583-acre former cattle ranch with a 12-sided barn converted into artist studios. Djerassi hosts 10 to 12 artists at a time for its month-long residencies, from March to November. The facilities include lodging with chef-prepared weekday dinners, living quarters, the Artists’ Barn (with multiple studios) and Old Barn (an installation and performance space). Djerassi is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains less than 40 miles south of San Francisco and overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
