Lenoir–Rhyne Bears
The Lenoir–Rhyne Bears are the athletic teams that represent Lenoir–Rhyne University, located in Hickory, North Carolina, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Bears have primarily competed in the South Atlantic Conference since the 1989–90 academic year. Lenoir–Rhyne competes in 23 intercollegiate varsity sports. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track and field (indoor and outdoor); while women's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field (indoor and outdoor), triathlon, and volleyball. Lenoir–Rhyne University is a private Lutheran university in Hickory, North Carolina. It was founded in 1891 and is affiliated with the North Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Eddie Holbrook
Eddie Holbrook is an American former college men's basketball head coach. He is best known for his tenure at Gardner–Webb University between 1964 and 1978. He was hired to coach Gardner-Webb when he was just 24-years old, and during his 14-year career there he compiled an overall record of 344 wins to just 67 losses. Holbrook was the coach when the team transitioned from a junior college program to an NAIA school (beginning in 1969). In his first five years, Holbrook's teams won four conference titles, and two regional titles in 1968–'69 while earning an invitation to play in the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas (a first for any GW team). Will Perry
William Kiah Perry (born October 11, 1994) is an American professional basketball player. Standing at 1.83 m (6 ft 0 in), Perry plays as point guard. Alumnus of Lenoir–Rhyne University, he has played several years of professional basketball in Europe and Africa. Perry previously held the record for most points in a single BAL game, is a one-time All-BAL First Team selection and a two-time BAL Sportsmanship Award winner. Rick Barnes
Richard Barnes (born July 17, 1954) is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach at the University of Tennessee. He is also known for coaching at the University of Texas from 1998 to 2015, taking the team to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 16 of his 17 seasons—including 14 straight from 1999 to 2012—as well as a Final Four appearance in 2003. Dareke Young (born June 4, 1999) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Lenoir–Rhyne Bears. Dareke went to Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina from 2014 to 2017. Kyle Dugger (born March 22, 1996) is an American professional football safety for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Lenoir–Rhyne Bears. Early life Dugger primarily played basketball at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. Thomas Laurendine (born ) is an American football coach. He is the offensive line coach at the United States Naval Academy, a position he has held since 2024. Laurendine served as the head football coach at Sewanee: The University of the South from 2011 to 2016. Perry Fewell (born September 7, 1962) is an American football coach. He currently serves as the senior vice president of officiating administration for the National Football League (NFL)'s officiating department. Previously, he served as the defensive backs coach or defensive coordinator for eight NFL teams between 1998 and 2019.
