Leagues Beneath
"Leagues Beneath" is a single by the American stoner doom band Sleep. The song was released for free digitally on May 23, 2018 through Adult Swim's 2017 singles series, marking Sleep's second entry following 2014's " The Clarity". "Leagues Beneath" was released a month after the band's 2018 return album, ''The Sciences'', which marked Sleep's first full-length studio release in twenty years. Later in 2018, "Leagues Beneath" was released on etched vinyl through Third Man Records. Composition Musically, "Leagues Beneath" is a long, slow epic that begins with B-tuned guitar and gradually builds by introducing new elements. Al Cisneros' vocals are not heard until nearly six minutes into the track. After the song's protracted crescendo, it concludes with a somber passage where layers strip away and give way to clean, psychedelic string sounds. Sleep (band)
Sleep is an American stoner/ doom metal band from San Jose, California. Guitarist Matt Pike and bassist and vocalist Al Cisneros have been the only constant members throughout the band's history. Critic Eduardo Rivadavia describes them as "perhaps the ultimate stoner rock band" and notes they exerted a strong influence on metal in the 1990s. The band released their debut album, '' Volume One'', in 1991, after which original fourth member Justin Marler left. Sleep gained wider attention with their second album, '' Sleep's Holy Mountain'', in 1992. However, conflict with the band's record company contributed to their breakup by the end of the decade. ''The Sciences'' is the fourth studio album by American stoner/doom metal band Sleep. The album was released with little warning on April 20, 2018, through Third Man Records. It was the band's first full-length album since '' Dopesmoker'' (2003). Just a month after the release of ''The Sciences'', Sleep released the non-album song " Leagues Beneath" through Adult Swim's 2018 weekly single series. ''Jerusalem'' and ''Dopesmoker'' are two versions of the third studio album by the American stoner doom band Sleep. The former title was released in 1999 by The Music Cartel and the latter was released by Tee Pee Records in 2003. The music for these albums comprises an extended hour-length piece (either split into multiple shorter tracks or presented as a single track), developed over four years and recorded in 1996 under the auspices of Sleep's label at the time, London Records. When recording had completed, London was unhappy with the finished product and refused to release it, leading to Sleep's disbandment and the album surfacing on bootlegs and unauthorized indie releases in subsequent years. B Tuning or B Standard Tuning is the standard tuning for a seven string guitar, where the strings are tuned B-E-A-D-G-B-E. B tuning can also be achieved on a six-string guitar, when the strings are tuned B-E-A-D-F♯-B, known then as Baritone Tuning. This tuning is popular among several different types of metal bands. Some bands use a tuning known as "drop A tuning", where they drop the low B to A, so the tuning for a 7-string guitar is as follows A1-E2-A2-D3-G3-B3-E4. Also, for a 6-string guitar, drop A tuning is achieved by tuning all strings down a 4th with the lowest string tuned 1 additional step down as follows A1-E2-A2-D3-F#3-B3.
