Lawa People
Lawa ( or ; ) are an ethnic group in northern Thailand. The Lawa language is related to the Blang language, Blang and the Wa language found in China and Myanmar (Burma), and belongs to the Palaungic languages, a branch of the Austroasiatic languages. Their population is estimated to be some 17,000. The Western Lawa are found in the vicinity of Amphoe Mae Sariang, Mae Sariang in the south of Mae Hong Son Province, the Eastern Lawa are centred on Bo Luang in Chiang Mai Province. Lawa Language
Lawa (La'wa, L'wa) is a Mon–Khmer language of Thailand. There are two distinct varieties or dialects of Lawa, considered to be separate languages; their names in the ''Ethnologue'' are Eastern Lawa and Western Lawa. They are spoken in Lawa villages in the provinces of Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. Linguistically, Lawa belongs to the Palaungic branch of the Mon-Khmer family of languages, which is part of the Austro-Asiatic super-family. Lawa Thikana was a '' Thikana'' estate or ''Thakurat'' under the Jaipur Residency of the former Rajputana Agency. It was ruled by Dasawat Naruka Rajputs. It was located very close to Tonk town and included its capital, Lawa, a small town and its surroundings. Lawa is located in the northwestern part of present-day Tonk district of Rajasthan, India. Lawa estate near Tonk should not be confused with Sardargarh, a Thikana of Udaipur State (Mewar) which had been known as 'Lawa' before 1738. Lawas () is a small town and the capital of Lawas District, Limbang Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. This district area is 3,811.90 square kilometres, and population (year 2020 census) was 46,200. It is 1,200 km from the state capital, Kuching and 200 km from the capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu. Etymology There are several versions of the origin of the name "Lawas". Obando, officially the Municipality of Obando (), is a municipality in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 59,978 people.
