Laura Mercier Cosmetics is a French and United States, American cosmetics and skin care line that was founded in 1996 by celebrity Make-up artist, makeup artist Laura Mercier. Founder Mercier teamed up with Janet Gurwitch in 1996 to launch the cosmetics line. Laura Mercier remains active in the brand, deeply involved in the product development and creative direction of the brand. Products From the outset, Laura Mercier Cosmetic's goal was to offer "high-quality, natural-looking makeup products for all skin tones and types", according to the ''Wall Street Journal''. The brand became known for its focus on products to create what it calls the "flawless face", a concept derived from Mercier's reputation for promoting naturalistic makeup. Laura Mercier (born Michèle Mercier on 2 October 1960) is a French makeup artist and businesswoman. Early life Laura Mercier was born as Michèle Mercier in Arles, France, on 2 October 1960, the youngest of three daughters. At 16, she enrolled as an art student at L'Ecole Supérieure d'Arts Appliqués Duperré, a design school in Paris, to pursue painting and drawing. Mercier later enrolled at the Carita Paris Institute, a combination beauty school and salon in Paris, France. Janet Gurwitch (born 1954) is an American businesswoman and investor. She is the founder of Gurwitch Products, the manufacturer of Laura Mercier Cosmetics. She founded the company in 1995 and launched the Laura Mercier line in March 1996. Biography A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States, and graduate of the University of Alabama, Gurwitch began her career at Foley's department store in Houston, Texas, rising to the position of senior vice president of merchandising.
