Las Virgenes Road
Las Virgenes Road / Malibu Canyon Road is a north–south road that runs for and traverses the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles County, connecting California State Route 1 in Malibu with U.S. Route 101, the San Fernando Valley, and the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. The southernmost portion of the road between Route 1 and Route 101 is designated County Route N1 and nicknamed "the road from the Valley to the Sea." Name Las Virgenes Road is the truncated version of El Rancho de Nuestra la Reina de Las Virgenes (), also known as Rancho Las Vírgenes. Malibu Canyon Road was named after Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit, in which Malibu, a poor Anglicisation of Humaliwo (), was the name of a local Tongva or Chumash village. Rancho Las Vírgenes
Rancho Las Vírgenes was a land grant in the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills, in present day western Los Angeles County, California. The lands of the Rancho Las Vírgenes included present day Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Westlake Village and part of the Santa Monica Mountains. It was given in 1802 by Spanish Governor José Joaquín de Arrillaga to Miguel Ortega, but was abandoned after his death in 1809. Nemecio Domínguez and Domingo Carrillo received a Mexican land grant in 1834. ''Nuestra Señora la Reina de las Vírgenes'' translates as "Our Lady the Queen of the Virgins". Malibu Creek
Malibu Creek is a year-round stream in western Los Angeles County, California. It drains the southern Conejo Valley and Simi Hills, flowing south through the Santa Monica Mountains, and enters Santa Monica Bay in Malibu. Malibu Creek State Park
Malibu Creek State Park is a state park of California, United States, preserving the Malibu Creek canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. The park was established in 1974. Opened to the public in 1976, the park is also a component of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Geography Malibu Creek State Park stretches from below Malibou Lake in the west to Piuma Road in the east. Backbone Trail
The Backbone Trail is a long distance trail, long-distance trail extending 67.79 miles (109.10 km) across the Santa Monica Mountains in the U.S. state of California.
