Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid (; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who played as a midfielder and served as the captain of the Iraqi national team. He was vital to speaking out against Uday Hussein, the chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, who was known for his brutality against the football team. International career Hussein made his international debut at the age of 17 in 1986. He played in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and helped Iraq win the Asian Youth Championship in Doha. In the World Youth Cup in Saudi Arabia a year later, Hussein was on the verge of joining Spanish giants Barcelona, after scoring one of the goals in a 2–0 win over Spain, helping Iraq to top their group, but was denied this move by then-president Saddam Hussein. 10th Arabian Gulf Cup
The 10th Arabian Gulf Cup () was held in Kuwait, between 21 February to 9 March 1990. All matches were played at Peace & Friendship Stadium. Saudi Arabia withdrew before the tournament, as they considered that the horses in the competition logo were a reference to two animals used by the Kuwaitis in the Battle of Jahra in 1920. Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium
Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in the Ardhiyah area of Kuwait City, Kuwait. Completed in 2009, it is used mostly for association football, football matches and sport of athletics, athletics. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 seated spectators, the building is constructed in 4 levels, with 54 corporate boxes and a parking lot with a 6,001-car capacity. It was expected to open in the second quarter of 2010, but the building failed structural-integrity testing and remained closed for nearly half a decade due to a miscalculation by structural engineers. The 9th Arabian Gulf Cup () was the 9th edition of this tournament. It was held from 2 to 18 March 1988, in Saudi Arabia. It was the second time after 1972 that Saudi Arabia hosted this regional football tournament. The tournament was won by Iraq. It was the third title for Iraq after having won the tournament 1979 in Baghdad and 1984 in Muscat. All games were played at the newly built King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
