Ky Laffoon
Ky Laffoon (December 23, 1908 – March 17, 1984) was an American professional golfer. (Birthdate also stated as December 24, 1907.) He won 10 times on the PGA Tour, with four of the victories coming in 1934. He played on the 1935 Ryder Cup team. In 1939, his wife Irene threatened to leave him if he could not control his temper on golf course. Next tournament after two rounds he came to 15th hole and his ball was buried in honeysuckle. After missing three shots, he starting shouting cuss words that all the spectators could hear. His wife was one of the spectators and headed for the clubhouse after the outburst. Ky ran after her and pleaded that he wasn't cussing at his golf game, he just hates honeysuckle. He was born in Zinc, Arkansas and died in Springfield, Missouri. Polk Laffoon
James Knox Polk Laffoon (October 24, 1844 – October 22, 1906) was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky. Born near Madisonville, Kentucky, Laffoon attended the local schools. In September 1861, during the Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate States Army in Company F, 8th Kentucky Infantry, at the age of 17. Elected a lieutenant, Laffoon was captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson on February 16, 1862, and was held a prisoner of war at Camp Morton, at Indianapolis, Indiana. He was exchanged at Vicksburg in September 1862 and was discharged at Knoxville, Tennessee. He next enlisted in Adam Rankin Johnson's 10th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment and again was made a lieutenant. He was captured at Cheshire, Ohio in July 1863, during John Hunt Morgan's raid north of the Ohio River, and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war. Reuben Laffoon
Reuben Francis Laffoon (March 10, 1854 – June 28, 1929) was a pioneer and lawyer in Tacoma, Washington, settling in the city during the development boom of 1880s. Laffoon dedicated his first year in Tacoma to real estate, but then resumed his law practice and operated from an office located in the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce building. He gained recognition in the field and was known as a prestigious specialist. He was one of the first lawyers authorized to practice in the federal court of the Washington Western District. In 1912, he was appointed to the position of federal bankruptcy referee by Judge Edward E. Cushman. Laffoon was interested in mining, and invested in companies in Washington and Alaska. He abandoned his law career for three years to work in a mining business in Nevada. Ruby Laffoon
Ruby Laffoon (January 15, 1869March 1, 1941) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 43rd Governor of Kentucky from 1931 to 1935. A Kentucky native, at age 17 Laffoon moved to Washington, D.C., to live with his uncle, U.S. Representative Polk Laffoon. He developed an interest in politics and returned to Kentucky, where he compiled a mixed record of victories and defeats in elections at the county and state levels. In 1931, he was chosen as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee by a nominating convention, not a primary, making him the only Kentucky gubernatorial candidate to be chosen by a convention after 1903. In the general election, he defeated Republican William B. Harrison by what was then the largest margin of victory in Kentucky gubernatorial history.
