Alain Labrousse
Alain Labrousse (19 February 1937 – 6 July 2016) was a French sociologist and journalist who specialized in Latin American politics and the geopolitics of drugs. Biography He was born in Libourne, Gironde. He studied literature in Bordeaux, then sociology at the Sorbonne. After completing his doctorate, he taught at the French lycée in Montevideo for five years (1965–1970), during a period when the political situation in Uruguay was becoming increasingly restive. Labrousse drew on this experience to write his first work on urban guerrilla warfare, '' Les Tupamaros'' (Seuil, 1971). The book was translated into English and published by Penguin Books as part of their Pelican Latin American Library series. Clotilde-Suzanne Courcelles de Labrousse, commonly Suzette Labrousse or Suzanne Labrousse (1747–1821) was a French medium, known for her prophecies during the French Revolution, of which she was said to have foretold the outbreak. She was used by the Jacobins and Maximilien de Robespierre as a tool for political propaganda. Life Suzette Labrousse was born in a family from the wealthy nobility. She was educated by the Ursulines in Périgueux. In 1766 she became a member of the Franciscan order. Early on, she viewed herself as having the calling of preaching for the sinners of the world, and was of the view that the church and Christianity must be purified in order for it to raise from its current decay and become powerful again. Elisabeth Labrousse (10 January 1914 – 1 February 2000) was a French philosopher, historian, and academic. She became known for her work on Pierre Bayle and the history of French Protestantism. Early life and education Elisabeth Goguel was born in Paris on 10 January 1914. She was the daughter of Maurice Goguel, a specialist in early Christianity and professor at the Protestant Faculty of Theology in Paris, director of studies at the École pratique des hautes études, and Professor at the Sorbonne. Camille-Ernest Labrousse (; 16 March 1895 – 24 May 1988) was a French historian specializing in social and economic history who was born in Barbezieux, Charente and died in Paris. Biography Labrousse established a historical model centered on three nodes—economic, social and cultural—inventing the quantitative history sometimes now called cliometrics. Eschewing biographies and the narrative accounts of individual witnesses, which have provided the backbone of traditional historiography, he applied statistical methods and influenced a whole generation. François Labrousse (29 December 1878, Brive-la-Gaillarde – 27 November 1951, Brive-la-Gaillarde) was a French politician and member of the Resistance. Biography He was a doctor, specializing in psychiatry, and often served as an expert witness at the Court of Appeal of Paris. In 1921, he was elected a Senator for the Department of Corrèze; a position that was held by his father, , from 1894 to 1910. She became the first French woman to win gold at the European Trampoline Championships with her synchro partner Marine Jurbert. Michel Labrousse (25 December 1912, Brive-la-Gaillarde – 1988) was a 20th-century French historian. A student at the École normale supérieure in Paris from 1931 to 1935, Michel Labrousse obtained there his agrégation of history and geography. He was a member of the École française de Rome from 1936 to 1938, then a teacher in a high school in Bordeaux until the breakup of World War II. Drafted as Intelligence assessment officer, he was captured June 22, 1940, and was interned in Germany. Thierry Labrousse (born 4 May 1970) is a French former professional rugby union player. Born in Périgueux, Labrousse was a back-row forward, most often used as a number eight. He captained CA Périgueux to the French Group B championship title in 1993, before linking up with CA Brive, from where he was capped twice for France in 1996. On his international debut, a win over Romania at Aurillac, he crossed over for two tries. His other cap came against the touring Springboks.
