Link (unit)
The link (usually abbreviated as "l.", "li." or "lnk."), sometimes called a Gunter’s link, is a unit of length formerly used in many English-speaking countries. In US customary units modern definition, the link is exactly of a US survey foot, or exactly 7.92 inches or 20.1168 cm. The unit is based on Gunter's chain, a metal chain 66 feet long with 100 links, that was formerly used in land surveying. Even after the original tool was replaced by later instruments of higher precision, the unit was commonly used throughout the English-speaking world, for example in the United States customary units and the Imperial system. The length of the foot, and hence the link, varied slightly from place to place and time to time. In modern times the difference between the US survey foot and the international foot is two parts per million. The link fell out of general use in the 20th century. LKS (spacecraft)
The LKS (Russian: Лёгкий Космический Самолёт, "Light Cosmos Plane") was a Soviet Union spaceplane project led by Vladimir Chelomey in response to the Space Shuttle, United States Space Shuttle. The ''LKS'' was smaller and cheaper than its American counterpart, but was ultimately discarded in favor of the larger Buran programme, Buran. Claiming that the Buran project was too big, heavy, and expensive for Russia to complete, Chelomey designed the LKS in 1979. He ordered the construction of a full-scale mock-up, as a way to further stimulate interest. The project was never fully sanctioned however, and in 1982, Chelomey was officially ordered by the Soviet government to stop any further development. In March 1983, Chelomey made yet another attempt to obtain permission to build the LKS to repel US Intercontinental ballistic missiles. This too proved futile. Lakeside MRT Station
Lakeside MRT station (, ) is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East–West line in Jurong West, Singapore. Operated by SMRT Trains, the station serves the eponymous Jurong Lake and the Hong Kah and Taman Jurong residential estate. Other nearby landmarks include Yuan Ching Secondary School and the Jurong West Branch of the Housing and Development Board (HDB). First announced in May 1982 as Corporation station, it was to be constructed as part of Phase II of the MRT system. The name was later changed in 1984 to better reflect its location. It commenced operations on 5 November 1988 along with the other stations of Phase II. The installation of additional biking facilities and platform screen doors were completed in 2012, with noise barriers installed on viaducts in 2018 as well as 2020-2023. Lambda Kappa Sigma ( or LKS) is an international pharmacy fraternity headquartered in Muskego, Wisconsin. Founded in 1913, it t was created to promote the profession of pharmacy among women and advance women within the profession.
