The Long Beach Dub Allstars are an American Dub music, dub/ska/reggae Rock music, rock band formed in 1997 and disbanded in 2002, but reformed 10 years later. History Initial career (1997–2001) Eric Wilson (bassist), Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh met in childhood (in 1979) and later started their first garage Punk rock, punk band, consisting of Drum kit, drums, bass guitar, bass and vocals. In 1988, with Bradley Nowell, they formed the ska punk and reggae rock band Sublime (band), Sublime, which went on to sell over 17 million albums worldwide. Marshall Goodman
Marshall Goodman (born January 31, 1971), known professionally as Ras MG (also known as MG, Field Marshall, Field, or Fields) is an American musician, songwriter and producer. Career Sublime years: 1990–1992, 1994–1996 Goodman was the secondary drummer of the Southern California-based music group Sublime (band), Sublime from 1990 to 1992 and played on 14 of the 22 songs on the band's multi-platinum selling ''40oz to Freedom'' including "Date Rape (song), Date Rape", "Smoke Two Joints", "54-46 That's My Number/Ball and Chain", and "Hope". Sublime (band)
Sublime is an American ska punk band from Long Beach, California, that plays a mix of ska, punk, and reggae. Formed in 1988, the band's original lineup consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Lou Dog, Nowell's dalmatian, was the mascot of the band. Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in the band's breakup. Bradley Nowell
Bradley James Nowell (February 22, 1968 – May 25, 1996) was an American musician and the lead singer of the band Sublime. Born and raised in Belmont Shore, Long Beach, California, Nowell developed an interest in music at a young age. Nowell formed Sublime with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, whom he had met while attending California State University, Long Beach. During his lifetime, Sublime released the albums '' 40oz. to Freedom'' and '' Robbin' the Hood'' to critical and commercial success. In 1996, Nowell died of a heroin overdose in a San Francisco hotel while Sublime was on tour. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. Jack Maness is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist. Richard Arthur Smith, known professionally as RAS-1, is a guitarist and singer known as a founder of Long Beach Shortbus, alongside Sublime (band), Sublime bassist Eric Wilson (bassist), Eric Wilson, drummer Damien Ramirez, and Trey Pangborn. Smith was also one of the founding members of Long Beach Dub Allstars along with Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh. Biography Smith was born in North Long Beach, California. He is the son of singer Dora Gail Smith, formerly of the all girl Long Beach jazz quartet Dream, and Union Pacific Railroad worker Richard Smith. As a teenager, Smith was in a psychedelic rock band called The Griffin with his cousin J-Sun, later of the band Stonewing. Todd Forman
Todd Forman (born December 17, 1969) is an American saxophonist and practicing physician, best known as a touring musician with Sublime and Sublime with Rome. Career Forman played with Sublime from 1989 until their breakup in 1996, he played with them when he was home from studying at Harvard University. Forman met the band while playing in a jazz band, after being invited to jam with some musicians at a Long Beach party. Forman primarily played with the band when he was home for the summer break from studying. After studying at Harvard, he went to medical school at UCLA, and received a master's degree in medical education from USC. He set up a medical practice in Newport Beach in 2005 with his mother. Before opening his practice he was a professor of Clinical Medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC.
